Write the word force on the board. Create a concept

map, asking what students know about force
Show students the YouTube clip Gravity, Force and
Work (also on A Toy Story Webmix)
A force is a push or pull.
Discuss things that might move with a push or pull.

Discuss that the moving toys we looked at last

lesson must have been moved by either a push or
pull. Demonstrate moving some toys.
Create a Venn diagram on the floor with 2 hoops and
labels. Place some of the toys in the hoops.

Give students a copy of Moving Toys Venn

Diagram sheet.
Tell students they can discuss this with a partner.
Referring back to the table from last lesson and
using the toys and samples students create a Venn
Diagram for the moving toys. (They can draw or
write)

Looking at the direction of movement

Show giant arrow. Explain that we can show what
direction the push or pull happens in. Get a student
to push a toy car, and ask another student to lay
down the arrow showing the direction of the force.
In pairs use toys and smaller arrows to show the
direction of the force.
