RE 251 Activity Plan

1. Your names: Gabe Prizer and Natalie Kretlow

2. Type of activity: Icebreaker
1. Name of activity: Human Treasure Hunt
2. Estimated length of time for activity: No more than thirty minutes,
depending on how the group responds to the game.
3. Which of the four major outcomes of adventure education are
addressed? How?
Moral Development is a key focus of outcomes of adventure education
because there should be a positive social interaction. The actions of
others affect the activity because people have to participate and work
together in order for the game to be effective.
Group Development is present because the game depends heavily on
communication and teamwork in order to complete the treasure hunt.
4. What resources, equipment, or props will you use for the
activity? Do you need any provided for you? If so, what, how
many, etc? Be specific!
Check list for the hunt
Paper dotted lines that lead to the treasure, one paper per question on
the checklist, spots, hula-hoops, or rope can designate areas too
People to play the game

5. Will this activity work in the WildCat Room or outdoors behind

the building?
This activity is great because it can work anywhere- classroom,
gymnasium, or outdoors

6. Describe how you plan to conduct the activity including:

a. Physical set-up for the activity, getting props ready, etc.
First, we will explain the activity. After a brief explanation we will
pass out the human treasure hunt check list as to not distract
from the rules of the activity.

b. Briefing or framing (verbal set-up, not just instructions

or rules). The story that goes along with the activity (not
all will have this).
You are all trapped on a desert island and the only way to
escape is to unlock the secret treasure. The secret treasure can
only be found through teamwork and getting to know one
another. When all the items on the list are found, the secret
treasure and way to escape will be unlocked.
c. The activity itself (include all rules and explanations) and
how you will equally share in leading the activity)
Explain framing then explain the rules
Everyone will be given a checklist that will have questions to
help everyone get to know one another
The deserted island is in the shape of a map. Dashes and Xs
are placed on the ground.

Participants start out at the first area (dashes), and try to find a
different person for each question/fact on the checklist. When
someone completes a question, they move to the next spot on
the map and find a different person.
The list must make up different people, no duplicates, or else
you will have to walk the plank for cheating.
The object is to reach the end X/complete all twenty questions
We will take turns explaining a rule of the game to share
responsibility in leading the activity

d. Supervision (safety and rule enforcement)

Stand in the area of the gym and follow the progression of the
participants on the treasure map. We will make ourselves
available for people who have questions or to help facilitate
problems or uncertainties
Listen and make sure students are not cheating by talking to the
same people
e. Discussion, how will you facilitate the activity? If you
plan to debrief, please include questions here.
What did you guys think of the activity, was it helpful? What did you learn
about another classmate? Any interesting conversations arise from learning
from other classmates? Are there any changes that could be made to this
activity?
What are the risks associated with this activity? How will you
account for them?
This is a low risk activity but there are always potential risks such as paper
cuts, falling down, tripping over ones feet, and having too much fun.
