CLASS NEWS
Mrs. Pierce | English Language Arts | Chaloner Middle School

Sustained Silent
Reading
The only way for students to
improve in reading is to read.
No surprise. It is imperative
that students read books on
their reading levels that pique
their interests. We do have a
small classroom library, but
students are encouraged to
check out their own books
from the school or public
library or they can bring
something to read from home.
*If you have books at home
you no longer read, please
consider donating them to our
class!

First Days
During the first week of school,
students should be sure to
obtain the necessary supplies
for class. Handouts will be
distributed as well.

Welcome!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to 7th Grade and to English
Language Arts. I am very excited about working with you during
the 2015 - 2016 school year. We will study various units that
explore issues relevant to todays youth. Each unit will require a
culminating task or test. Students will work to increase reading
stamina, comprehension, and reading levels through their study
of each unit.
While our class focuses on much reading inside and outside of
class, we will also incorporate audio, video clips, movies, and
other forms of technology to supplement learning.

About Me

Class Expectations
It is imperative that students
understand the expectations for
this class regarding behavior and
supplies. Meeting these
expectations is essential for
student success. Each student
should have:
3-ring binder
notebook paper

I am now beginning my twelfth year in education. I have five years of

experience as a high school English teacher and six years of
experience as a middle school Language Arts teacher. I began my
middle school career in Virginia. While working there, I earned an
endorsement in Gifted Education through the University of
Richmond. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Im currently
pursuing a Master of Library Science degree at East Carolina
University.
At a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I love learning,
teaching, and working with children. In addition to being a teacher, I
have been a tutor and mentor. My goal as a classroom teacher is to
create a positive, friendly, and engaging learning environment.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family
my husband and three children. Several years ago, I was introduced
to the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life and was inspired to
lead a team to raise funds for research, education, and support to
those battling cancer and their caregivers.
