EXCELLENT!

WRITING A REVIEW

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone and Perfume: the Story of
a Murderer are both highly enjoyable movies. However, they will
appeal to very different audiences.
Harry Potter is a gripping adventure story, packed with magic.
After having his parents murdered by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort
(Richard Bremmer), Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is left on the doorstep of
his insensitive Muggle (non-magical) relatives, the Dursley family.
Treated like a vermin and having a miserable life, his world is soon to
be thrown upside-down when he receives an invitation to attend the
Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he meets his two
loyal best friends: awkward Rony Weasley (Rupert Grint) and genius
[the brilliant] Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), giving start to an
epic journey. The final scenes are spectacular and the special effects
are stunning. The lead actor, Dan Radcliffe, gives a rather convincing
performance but Rupert Grint steals the show with his many facial
expressions and charming awkwardness.
Perfume is a much more intense affair. Set in an eighteenth
century Paris, the plot follows the storyline of Jean-Baptiste
Grenouilles (Ben Wishow) life. Rejected and left to die by his mother,
Grenouille has a tough and mediocre childhood. But the boy has an
amazingly rare talent: an unimaginable olfactory sense. Years later,
when given the opportunity to create perfumes, his undying desire to
keep human scents starts to lead Jean-Baptiste to a twisted and dark
road. The plot is intriguing and far from predictable. Ben Wishow gives
a tremendous performance with his hauntingly stoic face and hollow
eyes in this spine-chilling story.
Either of these films would make a great evenings
entertainment. Harry Potter is a family film with something for
everyone, while Perfume, with its deadly themes and extreme
violence is definitely not a film for the kids!
