Introduction
Have you ever thought about getting a
dog? Well getting a dog can also save
another. The animals that are put into
shelters are abused and given up most of
the time. When shelters dont have the
room to bring more animals in, they
euthanize them, or,put them down, is
the term that most people use. But there
is a fight, a fight to help stop animal
abuse. Many people and activists have
founded and joined organizations to help
the animals that are suffering. So just
remember, when you buy a dog, you are
saving one too.

Oogys Story

There was one family that loved this deformed puppy

When Oogy was only ten weeks old, he was tied to a rusty, metal

stake and left as Pitbull bait. He was tossed in a small, old, rusty cage
and left to bleed out. He was found by the police a few days later, and
brought to a hospital, where many thought he was going to die. One
staff member, Diane Klein, refused to let him die. Out of all odds and
circumstances, Oogy survived. Not too long after the incident, Oogy
was adopted and has had many other injuries, like double ACL tears.
His family was told that he would never be able to go up staircases.
The two twin brothers brought mattresses to where he was sleeping.
According to the article, (Levin)...he passed surrounded by his loving
family. He is a dog who shall not be forgotten.

Faye Carey (above), a 16 year old teen from Waikato, New Zealand. She
wants to inspire others to stop animal abandonment. It all started
when she underwent a week of work experience at Animal Control
one November.
"(Carey) We picked up a puppy in the pound the first
day I went to Animal Control and then on my last day he was still
there and I felt really sorry for him," she said. The quote explains that
she wanted to the help animals who were abused, and not yet adopted
at shelters, but in this case, the puppy was about to get euthanized so
she didnt have a chance to save this animal. She first attempted to
help by setting up a Facebook page named Animal Re-Home Waikato
where she takes pictures of abandoned and abused dogs who need a
better home. Her page has managed to achieve more than 300 likes
and re-home more than 60 dogs

Animal Abuse vs. Animal Abandonment

Animal Abuse and animal abandonment are similar in several ways.
They both include some form of putting the animal in distress. They
also harm the animals life, or put it at some type of negative risk. They
also differ in several ways. One difference is that abuse includes
beating an animal, while abandonment includes leaving it behind.
Another difference is abuse also includes malnourishing the animal,
purposely not feeding it. While abandonment includes leaving the
animal to fend for itself.

Finding Solutions
Animal Abuse

to

Animal abuse is a problem because innocent animals are being

mistreated by selfish people and those who only care about
themselves.
Therefore, associations and activists came into play, and many animals
have been taken in and cared for until they find a home. According to
the article, Christianna Willis, the citizen who found an abused pitbull
said on a Craigslist ad to re-home the dog,
Your pit bull found me and
I won't give her back." This quote explains that Willis, who found the
abused dog, decided to take care of it until it found a proper home.
Basically, as more people join the fight against animal abuse, more and
more join to support the cause, and as a result, many abused and
mistreated animals have been saved and properly homed.

The Effects of Abused Animals

The effects of animal abuse are significant because many animals are
being found dead or on the street because they try to escape the
horror that is animal abuse. According to an article,
Often an animal
is a much more effective way for an abuser to control the people in
their household than threatening them directly, says Nida
Intarapanich, who received the national Merial Veterinary Scholar
award for her work
. Because of these outcomes, it is important that
you know to
only
adopt an animal if you appreciate its company, and
want to care for it. The graph above shows the increase, decrease,
then increase of animal abuse from 2000 to 2010.

Conclusion
I believe that animal abuse is a gruesome way
to treat a living organism. Someday, I hope that
all animal abuse will be stopped. All the animals
will be at a state of peace. From now on anytime I
see any domesticated animal (pet) being harmed
or abused, I will stand up for it. No living,
harmless creature deserves this type of suffering.
Anyone who mistreats an animal that loves its
owners company. Anyone who abuses an animal
should be punished more than the penalties
today! In conclusion, I believe that animal abuse
is a gruesome way to treat a living organism, and
should be stopped immediately
