Glossary
Computer: A computer is a general-purpose device
that can be programmed to carry out a set of
arithmetic or logical operations automatically.
Keyboard: In computing, a keyboard is a typewriterstyle device, which uses an arrangement of buttons
or keys, to act as mechanical levers or electronic
switches.
Monitor: A monitor or a display is an electronic
visual display for computers.
CPU central processing unit: (CPU) is the electronic
circuitry within a computer that carries out the
instructions of a computer program by performing
the basic arithmetic, logical, control and
input/output (I/O) operations specified by the
instructions.
Browser: Short for Web browser, a browser is a
software application used to locate, retrieve and
display content on the World Wide Web, including
Web pages, images, video and other files.

Mouse: A device that controls the movement of the


cursor or pointer on a display screen. A mouse is a
small object you can roll along a hard, flat surface.
Printer: In computing, a printer is a peripheral
which makes a persistent human readable
representation of graphics or text on paper or
similar physical media.
Input: Input device, any peripheral (piece of
computer hardware equipment) used to provide
data and control signals to an information
processing system (such as a computer)
