‘Aloha Parents,
‘The 7th grade is excited about celebrating May Day at Maryknol. May Day occurs
every other year and this year, we are honoring alumnae and OHA Trustee Haunani
Apoliana, Clas of 1967. Sh Ins graciously selecied a mele composed by Dr. Larry
‘Kimura for the 7th graders to perform atthe event. We will dance the waltz to E Na
Hawaii. Students have been partnered, and the waltz choreography practiced. We would
like your help to make this a successful production.
‘The student attire will be formal—Hawaiian style. Iti not required to purchase brand
now clothes, and we hope you have enough time to look for sale items that need to be
purchased.
Boys will wear a white collared, long sleeved shirts and black dress pants. They will be
dancing barefoot, sono dress shoes are required. Boys will also wear at-leaf le.
iris will wear an Aloha print tea-ength or longer dress mu'u ru'a (nothin straps,
please). Girls wll also wear a fresh plumeria lei with flowers in their hai.
‘Asan Advisory activity, students will lam to weave t-eis and string flower leis. Here
is where we need your help. We will ned ti-leaves and plumeria blossoms of any color,
‘except white because its the most fragile and bruises easily. We will need the t-leaves
toward the end of April andthe flowers the Wednesday before May Day. Please let your
‘homeroom teacher know if you can help with donating ti-leaves and flowers.
‘Thank you for your continued support. We will keep you informed asthe day
approaches. Until then, if you have any questions, please contact your child's homeroom.
