The Count of Monte Cristo Final Project Rubric
Goals
Follow the outline of The Treasure of Monte Cristo in order to choose a
character to analyze, a way represent your character, and how you will present your
final project. Be creative with this assignment and have fun! You should use textual
evidence to support your analysis of the character and use original and unique ways to
represent the character you have chosen.
Requirements
1. If you are doing an art piece, a song, a diorama or mobile, or a poem, you need to
add a 100 word (about half a page) explanation of why your final project represents your
characters tone, personality, and style throughout The Count of Monte Cristo. Why did
you choose to do your final project the way you did? What textual evidence supports
your characters tone, personality, and style that you have displayed in your piece?
These options are meant to be creative and need to be unique and original. How can
you best represent one of Alexandre Dumas characters in The Count of Monte Cristo.
Start by choosing either your favorite character or a character that was particularly
interesting to you.

2. If you are writing an essay it needs to be a minimum of 500 words (two full pages). The
argument needs to be on either:
a. Analyzing the song you chose for one of your characters. How does the song represent
your character? Describe the tone of the music, your choice in music, and the words of
the song. Use textual evidence and direct quotes to state that the song you chose is a
good fit for your character and represents your characters tone, actions, and
personality in the The Count of Monte Cristo.
b. Which is more important, revenge or justice? What is the difference between the two?
Define them both in your own words. What would your character choose to be more
important and why? Give details from the text, use direct quotes to support your
evidence, and define the tone of your character to help strengthen your argument.
Use textual evidence from your reading, be sure to include actual quotes from
the text to support your argument. The exigence, purpose, and audience should
be clear in your argument, as well as the ethos, pathos, and logos. Remember
what we covered in argument earlier in the semester and use that to come up
with a polished well thought out argument.
