2A: Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport (Self

Reflection: 3/4)
Students are participating in the lesson. They are all engaged in the
NearPod activity. They answer questions and volunteer to give their
opinions.
Students share opinions freely without reservations of ridicule or
embarrassment.
Teacher uses phrases like, I appreciate that answer. Good job on
that. I think this is a great one.
Students are not disrespectful.
Students laugh.
2B: Establishing a Culture for Learning (Self Reflection: 3)
Expectations are clearly communicated by the teacher using
phrases like, This is what I would like you to do now. Students
respond positively and complete the tasks.
Students volunteer to read out loud. Can I get someone to read
this for us?
This is an important connection to make.
You guys are getting this!
Im impressed by the connections you guys are making to the
Enlightenment.
Can you see what the conditions were leading up to the French
Revolution? Give me some of the factors leading up to it!
2C: Managing Classroom Procedures (Self Reflection: 3)
Teacher seamlessly completed classroom procedures like posting
attendance while students were getting set up. It did not cause a
disruption to the learning.
Teacher communicated procedure by using phrases like go ahead
and get your laptop out while I post attendance. Go to NearPod and
use the session code on the board.
2D: Managing Student Behavior (Self Reflection: 3)
Poor student behavior was not an issue during the observation. This
suggests that students are aware of the teachers expectations and
work to make sure they are met.
Teacher observed one student on a cell phone and politely asked
him to put it away for me, please? The tone of the teacher was
not confrontational, but respectful for the student. The student
followed the teachers direction.
Teacher circulated.
2E: Organizing Physical Space (Self Reflection: 3)
Desks are organized in rows.

Decorations around the classroom are a mix of content and


personal. The classroom is decorated in a way that makes it inviting
and fun. The mood is comfortable and relaxed. Students are
comfortable in this classroom.
3A: Communication with the Students (Self Reflection: 3)
Teacher introduced the lesson by asking students to log on to
NearPod and use the session code on the board.
This will be fun. Most of my students really enjoy drawing some
crazy hair on Marie Antoinette.
Can you think of reasons the peasants might be upset?
Students were able to make connections to previous content and
make predictions for future content.
The teacher invited the student to share their knowledge of content
with the class. What did you mean when you mentioned natural
rights? What exactly is a social contract?
3B: Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques (Self Reflection:
3)
Can you think of reasons the peasants might be upset?
Why do you think the King and Queen being outside of Paris
mightve been an issue?
How do you think the peasants felt knowing they were paying all
the taxes?
What do you notice about the way ____________ is dressed?
Teacher called on students that were originally hesitant to speak up.
Teacher modified level of questioning to accommodate students
that mightve lacked the knowledge of more advanced students
3C: Engaging Students in Learning (Self Reflection: 4)
Virtually all students were engaged in the NearPod lesson.
Teacher was getting a 100% participation rate on NearPod when
students had activities to complete.
Students were responding to questions posed by the teacher.
These are great answers.
Were almost at 100% participation. Lets get there!
3D: Using Assessment in Instruction (Self Reflection: 3)
Teacher used NearPod to gather formative feedback throughout the
lesson.

3E: Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness (Self Reflection:
3)
Teacher addressed a small glitch in the NearPod program calmly
and said, lets see if this fixes it. Students were then able to see
other students drawings and responses.
Teacher asked students to build on other students answers, ceasing
opportunities to ask students to elaborate and collaborate. Can you
add to that?
Teacher entertained a question by a student regarding the age
difference between Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. This was often
the case during the time period
