and jog to T
Questions: -What is a passing pattern? -Why
do we use patterns?
Answers: -Passing patterns in football are
routes the receivers run while on offense.
Passing patterns are used to create space
between the receiver and the defender.
They should be pre-planned for every play.

Informing: T will explain and demonstrate

the hook-passing pattern.

quarterback (QB)
2. Wide receiver (WR) runs out 10 yards
and cuts in a hook shape back towards the
QB
3. QB throws ball as the WR is turning back .

Activity #1: Hook Practice

Rules of the Activity: Ss will have 10
seconds to decide positions (QB, WR, C).
-Set up in their boundaries. C will be in
front of the QB and WR will be on the right
side of the QB.
- After 3 times on the right, switch to left,
and then rotate positions.
-Extension Up: WR will run farther away
before hooking back.

and slants diagonally across to the
opposite side of the field.
3. QB throws the ball when WR is
about 10 yards away.
Activity #2: Slant practice
-Same as hook practice, just use the slant
instead
-Extension Up: WR will run further and
with a change of speed before the QB
throws the ball.

Transition: Groups will join with one other

(8) 10 yds wide x 25 yds long (horizontal
setup on field) 5 yd end zone on each end.
Activity #3: 3 vs 3- 1 group will wear
pinnies.
-Teams must use passing patterns learned
-QB can be rushed after 5 seconds
-NO contact, flag pulling only
-Each S must have a chance at each position
-Stay within boundaries
-1 pt for touchdown/NO extra points
-Throw off to start game/after touchdown
-3 downs

9:429:43
Transition: Ss will jog back to the T, and put
the footballs in the bag, pinnies in bag, and
cones in a neat stack.
9:439:50

Closure: T will review the different

patterns.
-What makes passing patterns effective?
-What is the best strategy to use during
passing patterns?
