Focus: Floor Hockey Passing
Videotape one (1) lesson. Answer the following questions and submit your responses
on this assignment sheet via Google Doc (separate from lesson reflection).

1. Describe what you think about your content delivery and instruction time. Are you
pleased with the results? Why or why not? How could you change this for next time
when you teach?
-I thought that I was pretty quiet throughout the lesson. At times I try very hard to raise
my voice which is good, but it needs to be louder. My instruction time seems a little
rushed which is what teachers usually say to me. I need to figure out exactly what I
want to say beforehand and memorize it and go through it slowly with the students.
2. At what points during your lesson did you spend the greatest amount of time with
management? What specific teacher behaviors could you have used to lessen your
management time/transitions to increase the activity time?
- When I was choosing teams, I walked to all four corners of the gym which
is where four groups of students were standing. I could have used voice variation
to bring the students to the center of the gym and break them into teams there.
Also, the students all had different colored floor hockey sticks and it took me a
while to assign certain teams certain colors. Eventually there was blue vs. yellow
which worked out very well, but it needed to be set up that way from the
beginning.

3. Describe what you think about the classroom climate and control. Are you pleased
with the results? Why or why not? How could you change this for next time when you
teach?
- The students were very high energy and loved the game play. I had a lot
of students that were trying their hardest and a few that just stood around. I
repeatedly addressed the students that were not participating and constantly had
to break them up when they were on the court. When students would foul, I
immediately brought them over to the penalty area where they waited until they

were allowed to go back in. I think the class ran very well and all the students
were really upbeat and ready to participate.
4.

Identify one thing you can take away from observing yourself teach this lesson?
- Volume. I have to be louder. When I am up there talking to the students I
feel as though I am speaking loudly enough. I have to break the barrier of
comfortability and raise my voice for all the students to hear.
