Lesson Content
What Standards (national
or state) relate to this
lesson?
(You should include ALL
applicable standards. Rarely
do teachers use just one:
theyd never get through
them all.)

Objectives- What are you

teaching?
(Student-centered: What will
students know and be able to
do after this lesson? Include
the ABCDs of objectives:
action, behavior, condition,
and degree of mastery, i.e.,
"C: Given a sentence written
in the past or present tense,
A: the student B: will be able
to re-write the sentence in
future tense D: with no errors
in tense or tense contradiction
(i.e., I will see her
yesterday.)."
Note: Degree of mastery does
not need to be a percentage.)
Evaluation Plan- How will
you know students have

SC1.E.6.3 Recognize that some things in the world around us happen fast and
some happen slowly
SC.1.N.1.1- Raise questions about the natural world, investigate them in teams
through free exploration, and generate appropriate explanations based on those
explorations.

Students by the end of this lesson should be able to describe erosion and how it
affects the Earths surface.

I will know students have mastered the objects above by:

mastered your objectives?

Address the following:
What formative evidence
will you use to document
student learning during
this lesson?
What summative evidence
will you collect, either
during this lesson or in
upcoming lessons?

Step-by-Step Plan
(What exactly do you plan to
do in teaching this lesson? Be
thorough. Act as if you needed
a substitute to carry out the
lesson for you.)
Where applicable, be sure to
address the following:
How will materials be
distributed?
How will students
transition between
activities?
What will you as the
teacher do?
What will the students do?

Formative: Students will understand what erosion is.

Summative: Students will be able to compare and contrast slow and fast
changes in the earth by the end of the unit.

1. Students will make a before and after chart in the

classroom
2. Students will move outside with their journals
3. Students will observe what they see on the ground
4. Explain to the students that erosion has already
happened here
5. Ask students if they see where the erosion is
6. Ask the students what they think caused the erosion in
the soil.
7. Tell students to draw what they see in the before column
8. Ask the students what they think will happen when I
pour the water
9. Pour the water on the ground
10.
Ask the students what happened
11.
Have them draw what they saw happen and what
happened to the ground
12.
Talk about what the students just observed and
how that is erosion
13.
Move students back inside and tell them great job.
If applicable, how does this lesson connect to the interests and cultural
backgrounds of your students?

This lesson connects to students interest and cultural backgrounds by using

demonstrations, moving to a different environment (outside), and doing an actual
example of erosion. This gets students moving and observing like real scientist,
sparking interest to get them excited to watch and record in their journals.

Tier 3: Have student draw and label what they see.

Tier 1: Have students draw, label, and write sentences on what they observed.

Relevant Psychological
Theories and research
taken in consideration
when planning this lesson

I looked into different experiments on how to teach erosion. When I found that the
students could go outside and pour water on the ground to watch how it works I
was more than excited to try it. The students are also taking observations in their
science journal to compare and contrast what volcanos and erosion do to the
Earths surface.
