Introduction (News Reporter): Hello and welcome to the show. Today we are
joined by a special guest who we will be interviewing. Please welcome Marquis
De Lafayette onto the show.
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Thanks for having me.
(News Reporter): So Marquis I have 10 very important questions I would like to
ask you is that ok?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Yes, go ahead
Question 1(News Reporter): So I understand that your parents died when you
were a very young boy. Can you share with us a bit about this rough patch of
your childhood?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Well I was born on the 6th of September, 1757
in Auvergne, France to my mother Marie Louise Jolie de La Riviere and to my
father Michel du Metier, Marquis de La Fayette. Unfortunately, like you said they
both died when I was of a very young age. My Farther was the first to pass away
in 1759 after fighting the British. My Mother died later in my childhood in 1774.
Question 2(News Reporter): I Heard that your great wealth was passed down too
you after your mothers death? Also after she passed away you got married at
the age of 14? Is this true?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Yes, my wealth was passed down to me when
my mother died in 1770. I was very wealthy and decided to get married. I got
married to Adrienne de La Fayette at the very young age of 14. She born in 1759
in France and unfortunately passed away in 1807 on 24 th December. Between us
we had only one child, Georges Washington de La Fayette who is often confused
with the first American President George Washington.
Question 3(News Reporter): I have been told that you had completely disobeyed
King Louis XVI orders at the time. Can you tell us what exactly you disobeyed?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette) Well at the time the King of France was indeed
King Louis XVI. I Went to propose an idea to him. My idea was for myself to sail to
America and help fight the war against the British. Louis strongly disagreed with
this and told me I was not allowed to do this and sent me on my way. However, I
thought differently and decided to sail to America anyway. I bought myself a boat
with my great wealth and in 1777 I had arrived at North Carolina, America.
Question 4 (News Reporter) Can you tell the viewers and myself what you ended
up doing in America when you got there.
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): When I arrived in America is helped out the
Americans to fight against the British invaders. At the time I was ranked as a
major general. However, I fought in these wars without pay. 2 years later I was
sent back to my home country of France in an attempt to get more of the French
to help out the Americans to fight against the Brits.

Question 5 (News Report): That must have been a risky call going back to France
when the King had specifically told you not to go off to America. What happened
when you went back?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Once I eventually arrived back at France in
1779, I was immediately arrested for going against King Louis XVIs command.
However, I was quickly forgiven by him and was released. After having another
talk with Louis he allowed me to retuned to France in 1780 with some French
assistance. This was a great relief for me and was much appreciated by the
Americans.
Question 6(News Reporter): Once you arrived back at America for the second
time, did you and your extra troops help influence the war against the British?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): A highlight when I was in America was when
he helped trap English troops and forced them to surrender to the Americans and
the French. This was a great achievement in my life and I was very respected
from this point. In 1782 when I went back to France I was honoured by all. I was
one of the first people to go against the French Monarchy and for this I was seen
as a hero in many of the publics eyes.
Question 7(News Reporter): After you great achievement I heard that you were
given a seat in the French legislature which is much like a type of parliament.
Whilst having this power, did you attempt to change anything with the way
France was being ran?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Yes, I took a seat in the French legislature in
1789. Whilst in this seat of power, I had the idea to give everyone in France
some kind of rights. These rights would have gave everyone equal rights. This
idea of mine was called The Declaration of rights of man and citizen. However,
this wasnt widely accepted mainly by wealthier people like the King or other
members of the legislature.
Question 8(News Reporter): In 1792 there was a war between Austria and
Germany. Did you end up going to help out in that war as well?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Not soon after leaving the French legislature
the Austria and German war broke out in 1792. I was sent to fight against the
Austrians and also the Netherlands. This put me back into the job of commander
of Ardennes army in Germany.
Question 9(News Reporter) In this war did you have any major impacts like you
had in the previous war the you fought in?
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): No, not really. I didnt have a huge impact on
this war but it was defiantly a huge impact on my life. I was unfortunately
captured by Napoleon and held hostage until 1797. When I was finally being let
out and went back to France (without permission), and I was then just put on a
military pension. From then on I was called the hero of two worlds because of my
accomplishments in American and France.
Question 10(News Reporter): And the final question of the day. When and where
did you eventually pass away? Also, do you feel as though you put your time on
this earth to a good use?

Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Well. I unfortunately died in Paris in 1834 at

age 76. Overall my life was successful in the fact that helped out in the American
war, was known as the hero of two worlds and also attempted to give everyone
freedom and went against the French Revolution.
Conclusion (News Reporter): Well thanks for your time. We appreciate all that
you did to shape the future of France and being a part of helping America.
Response (Marquis De Lafayette): Thanks for having me
