Students may not be entirely sure about the


concept of looking back from a point in time
given by the perfect structure/ aspect.
Ss should be reminded of the difference
between 'In January' and 'By Januar'y.

Use timelines and CCQ's:


Did it start before now/ in May? (Yes)
When does it end? (In Dec 2014)
Will it be happening in January 2015? (No)
Are we talking about the present, past or
future? (Future)

The Perfect structure after the modal may


lead students to think of Perfect Tenses
think that it "started in the past and
continues into the present".

Anticipated Problems

Weak form of have: /v/


Past Participle -ed endings pronounced as
extra syllables
Stress on main verb, not on the verb have
(weak)
linking of will + have (/wlv/)
Pronunciation of contractions of will

In the rare event of a skills lesson with absolutely no target language envisaged, please justify

Possible solutions

Provide a natural, accurate model


Drill the natural, relaxed forms in LP
Elicit/ Revisit/ drill -ed endings in full phrases
like 'will have finished'
Use finger pointing in Language
Presentation before highlighting written form
