ClassIn this section, you should discuss how class is represented in the two filmsDiscuss how each class is represented in the films and compare how the
working and middle class are represented by giving clear examples from the
text.
Remember to always say what it connotes about the British culture.
Hint- Compare how the middle class are shown in both films through their
voice, appearance, behaviour and occupations.
Settings- in this section, you will need to pick out different landmarks and
parts of the mise-en-scene of both texts that are stereotypically British.
You will have to explain why they are British and give clear examples.
REMEMBER TO COMPARE BOTH TEXTS.
Sound- Talk about the sound, both diegetic and non-diegetic and relate to
question. Compare both texts.
Ideology- THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!
Discuss the different ideologies and give clear examples from both texts.
Remember you must state why these ideologies are typically British. These
should include: family, friendship and community values. Without examples
it will be meaningless!
Hint- Remember desperation against aspiration. Compare the
desperational values of the British compared to the aspirational American
ideologies across both films.
Conclusion- you must refer to the power of the media and how the media
distort and stereotype, which can cause problems, e.g. prejudice. Give
clear examples! Give overview on positive and negatives of representing
different cultures etc..
THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE FOR THIS IS TO BACK UP ALL POINTS WITH
EXAMPLES AND COMPARE BOTH TEXTS!
EXPLAIN ALL POINTS CLEARLY AND SAY WHAT THINGS SHOW. SAY HOW AND
WHY TO ALL POINTS MADE AND ALWAYS LINK POINTS TO THE QUESTION!
