Responds to Merrick Garland Nomination
Judge Garland Has a Record of Seeking to Undermine the Second Amendment FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, March 16, 2016 Contact: Matt Joiner, 850-270-8274 Tallahassee, FL -- Mary Thomas, Constitutional conservative attorney, and member of the Federalist Society, released the following statement today in response to President Obama nominating Judge Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court. "As Governor Rick Scott's Assistant General Counsel, when I helped interview judicial applicants, I met many good people, with good temperaments, yet I recommended that they not get the appointment. That's because a judge must prove to me that they will not legislate from the bench and that they will follow the written word of the U.S. Constitution. In Merrick Garland, President Obama has nominated a good man, with good temperament, but a man that has a record of judicial activism. This is especially true when it comes to the Second Amendment, which Merrick Garland has actively tried to undermine. This is a nomination to replace Justice Scalia, who stood for the Constitution regardless of politics. Conservatives and all those who respect the U.S. Constitution as the unchangeable law of our land, should not support Mr. Garland's nomination." -- Mary Thomas ###
