Conditional Type One

Objective: To Remind students of the form of the conditional type one


Write this conversation on the board

A: Hurry up we might miss the train


B: if we miss the train, we will take a taxi
A: but there is another possibility that if we miss the train, we will take the next one
Ask some questions

What are they talking about?

About what will possibly happen if they miss the train.

Pick out the sentence with if then ask some questions


How many clauses are there in a sentence?
What tense is used in each of the clauses?
Remind students that we can reverse the placement of both clauses
Ask students to do the following exercises

Re

students of the previous conversation and ask them about the function
of the if clauses.
Tell them that there are some other functions and give explanation
about them if needed.
Ask them to do the exercise that follows:

Match the sentences with their functions.

Offer- threat- advice- promise prediction- warning


1. A criminal met a lady in the street and said if you dont give me
money, Ill kill you
2. If the clouds fill the sky, it will rain
3. Be careful! if you touch that wire, you will get an electricity shock
4. If you talk your parents nicely, Allah will reward you
5. The father said to his son If you get a high average this term, I will
buy an IPad for you
6. I am good at math I will help you doing the math exercise if you
want
Production: ask students to write conditional sentences expressing
the same functions in the exercise above.
