What Is The Hollywood Fringe Festival?

www.hollywoodfringe.org

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual, open-access event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing
arts community. Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: Fully equipped theaters, parks,
clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places either host
or provide services for hundreds of productions by local, national,
and international arts companies and independent performers. June
2016 will mark the seventh year of the festival.
The Hollywood Fringe was immediately embraced by the local
arts community during its inaugural festival in 2010. A registered
501(c)(3) non-profit, the organization quickly became known for
meeting the needs of local artists by providing a networking opportunity for dozens of theater companies otherwise made disparate by
distance. This success was reflected by local media: The festival was called an artful feast by the LA Times,
a roaring success by Backstage, and a triumph by LA Weekly during its first year.
Participation in the Hollywood Fringe is completely open and uncensored, which has only intensified the events
popularity. First, this free-for-all approach underlines the festivals mission to be a platform for artists instead of
a self-serving curative body. By opening the gates to anyone with a vision, the festival is able to exhibit the most
diverse and cutting-edge points-of-view the world has to offer. Additionally, by creating an environment where
artists must self-produce their work, the Fringe motivates its participants to cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurialism in the arts. Put another way, LA Weeklys Steven Leigh Morris has said that the Hollywood Fringe is the
purest program we have that embodies the open market of ideas and entertainments.
It is now a regular occurrence each June for thousands of patrons and artists to converge in Hollywood to see
what new works are about to break out. With 50,000 tickets sold in 2015 and $400,000 going back to artists and venues, the Hollywood Fringe has not only become one of the largest uncensored arts festivals in the
United States, but also an integral part of the Los Angeles arts scene.
Its difficult to put into words what makes the Hollywood Fringe so special. Many say it is the festivals mission.
Others point to the events young, passionate community. Perhaps a Los Angeles Times reporter stated it best:
My Hollywood Fringe Festival experience allowed me to become immersed in a community of talented and
kind individuals, sharing in a love for the arts as well as life that went well beyond the stage.
By helping small companies and solo performers to produce and promote their shows, and by providing a
network that puts artists in touch with one another, the Fringe seeks to advance the goals of its website mission
statement: See Shows. Make Friends. Have Fun.

Why Partner With The HFF?

The Hollywood Fringe has an expansive mission that seeks to champion underground artists, challenge the limits
of established performers and spur growth in the local community. The festival has become a rallying point for
artists and provides a critical mass of audience that is young, outgoing and energetic.
The Hollywood Fringes business model relieves the organization from depending on outside sources of
funding to survive, but the organization relies on its partnerships to sustain growth. If your business is interested
in expanding programming for developing artists, extending cultural opportunities for local patrons or exposing
your brand to a youthful and vibrant community, there are advantages to partnering and collaborating with this
young organization. Over the first six years of the festival, audiences have nearly tripled, from 17,000 in 2010
to 50,000 in 2015.

After only six years, the Hollywood Fringe Festival has proven it can
bring an increasingly large and diverse community into one square
mile of Hollywood every June. This outgoing Fringe community
spends tens of thousands of dollars in Hollywood and its surrounding
areas. In this way, the festival serves as a boon to local venues, retail
stores, restaurants, and other local businesses. Some of the most
successful locations have earned tens of thousands of dollars directly
from their participation in the Fringe.
The patrons and participants of the festival have shown a loyalty to
the Fringe that impresses, continuing to search for and cultivate the
Fringe spirit all year long. By partnering with us, your companys
brand would be fixed in the minds of our audience. As the Fringe is a
501(c)(3) non-profit, your cash sponsorship is fully tax-deductible.
With steady upward growth in performances, audience, ticket sales
and media coverage, the Hollywood Fringe is poised for another huge
success in 2016. Join the Fringe movement!
