Dear Hiring Manager,
Please accept the enclosed CV as my application for the position of Primary School
Teacher/Teacher Assistant. This June I will graduate from the University of Toronto with a
Master of Teaching degree (Elementary division). This degree combines teaching certification
with graduate level course work and research. Having conducted 4 teaching practicums in
addition to several other meaningful experiences working with children, I believe that I am a
strong candidate for this position. I am confident that the skills that I have developed as an
educator, combined with my strong academic qualifications and my sincere commitment to
student-centred learning uniquely position me to support student success in your school.
My philosophy of teaching is rooted in the belief that building a safe and equitable learning
environment wherein all students have the opportunity to succeed and thrive necessitates
innovative approaches to teaching and learning that prioritize the whole child. Your school is of
particular interest to me because I share the schools commitment to academic excellence and a
holistic approach to education, for each student in the learning community.
My recent role as a Teacher Candidate at Dovercourt Public School, demonstrates my
commitment to being responsive to student needs and interests. I developed positive
relationships with the students by understanding their individual needs and supporting them to
reach their full potential. I gave students an opportunity to share interests and ideas that I
incorporated into learning centres. My teaching experience also involved collaborative work with
the host classroom teacher to modify lessons for students with learning needs. Individual
Education Plans informed my lesson planning and flexibility to ensure that all students were
actively engaged and participating. One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience was
seeing students who normally experience difficulty experience success instead. When planning a
rocks and stones investigation at the Discovery Centre, I addressed student interest for
collecting rocks, by incorporating read alouds, and sorting activities. My instruction was well
received by students as seen through positive comments on my summative evaluation. However,
I continue to reflect on my experiences with the intent to improve my practice for the success of
future students.
In my role as a Learning Specialist at Bishop Strachan School, I had the opportunity to
experience a variety of learning environments, reinforcing my commitment to providing
individualized support to students. I effectively provided one-on-one and small group support to
students with Individual Education Plans, demonstrating diverse learning needs. I believe

students are most engaged when they are fully present socially and emotionally. I ensured that
students always left the Learning Resource Centre, feeling happy and supported. Given my care
and commitment to student well-being, I developed great relationships with the students by
taking the time to understand and appropriately address their social-emotional and academic
needs. In particular, I worked with and supported a student who had severe test anxiety, by
encouraging frequent breaks, allowing extra time, and allowing her to remove herself from the
environment when she began to feel overwhelmed.
My passion for teaching stems from my commitment to fostering students life-long love for
learning and character development. My previous work experience combined with my
demonstrated ability to create a supportive classroom environment for diverse learners uniquely
qualify me for this position. I would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss joining your team
of teachers at your earliest convenience. Please do not hesitate to contact me at
anza.humayun@utoronto.ca or by phone at +1 647 926 9000.
Sincerely,
Anza Humayun
