A letter from our

2015-2016 President
Kayla Nichol
Dear Rodeo Team Supporters,
Wow, it has been a great quarter for the Cal Poly Rodeo Team! We made the finishing
touches on our arena, we survived El Nino (for now), and the Coalinga and Fresno College
Rodeos were a huge success! We are so fortunate to have the support of our local community and sponsors. Thank you all for the hard work you have put in to making our rodeo
program thrive. It truly wouldnt be possible without you.
With Poly Royal fast approaching, we will be keeping busy in the upcoming weeks! Be
prepared for radio shows, a farmers market booth, and of course the 76th Annual Poly Royal Rodeo! Last year, our rodeo was named Rodeo of the Year for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, and we plan on doing it again this year! Our team members have
been putting in countless hours behind the scenes to make sure our facility looks sharp and
our event runs smoothly. You wont want to miss this one folks!
It has truly been an honor to serve as the Cal Poly Rodeo Team President for the past year.
I can honestly say that our members have made this year one I will never forget. The Cal
Poly Rodeo Team is more like a rodeo family. Cal Poly has a great history that got us where
we are today, and I know we all plan to leave our legacy for the generations to come. Its
been a great first, two quarters. Now, lets finish the year out right!

Arena Renovation
Story By: Holly Wilson

At the end of Fall 2013, a plan was drafted to

begin a renovation of the Cal Poly Rodeo arena. This project, led by Coach Ben Londo, was
divided into three phases, each to be completed in the winter off-season.
The renovation, completed in Winter 2016,
has given Cal Poly students the opportunity to
gain hands on experience and develop a new
skill set to be applied later in life.
The neatest thing about this project is the
amount of help that the students have been
able to provide and the experience that they
are getting by putting so much work into
building this facility, said Ben Londo.
The completion of the arena will mark a new

era for Cal Poly Rodeo, including state of the art

equipment and a more effective arena layout.
Better equipment makes for better practice.
The arena will now be a state of the art permanent
facility, and the new orientation will make for
better practice and performance, said Ron Bass,
Well get better buck out of the horses and the
bulls will perform a lot better.
On behalf of the Cal Poly Rodeo Team and Coach
Ben Londo, we would like to thank Bill Roth and
Peter Orradre of Coast Pipe, for donating the
pipe materials, RD Karney for his welding expertise and countless hours of donated time, Cal
Poly Ag Operations for the use of their equipment, the Rodeo Boosters led by Ron Bass, and
the Cal Poly Rodeo students who have donated
their time and energy to complete the arena renovation.
This project truly embraces the Cal Poly learn
by doing motto and shows that the Cal Poly
rodeo program is preparing for an even brighter
future. *
