Introduction:

Thesis:
Each article focuses on the same topic, but Ravenscrafts article Five Things is a much
more persuasive piece because with the incorporation of colloquial moves amongst
tone, style, and relatable evidence it offers personality and empathy that academic
articles do not possess.

Body Paragraph 1:
Main Point:
The persuasiveness of an article correlates with the rhetorical features relevant to its
target audience.

!

How/Why It Supports My Argument:

This main point relates to my argument because the rhetorical features are what is
being analyzed and assessed throughout my essay.

Body Paragraph 2:
Main Point:
The tone and language used in Ravenscrafts nonacademic article Five Things I Wish I
Knew Before Starting a Long-Distance Relationship emotionally draws the audience
into the ideologies presented by the author.

How/Why It Supports My Argument:

This point relates to my argument because colloquial tone is a move Ravenscraft uses
to emotionally draw the author.

Body Paragraph 3:
Main Point:
Contrastingly, Knox et al. and Le et al.s scholarly articles are written very formally;
hardly ever using slang, emotions, or descriptive language.

!
!

How/Why It Supports My Argument:

This topic sentence explains why these two other analyzed articles do not emotionally
attract the audience, in relation to tone and language.

Body Paragraph 4:
Main Point:
The style and format of an article includes the use of visuals to either provide
authenticity for the evidence, or to aesthetically compliment the text.

How/Why It Supports My Argument:

This topic discusses the second move of style and format, and introduces how
Ravenscrafts style is more emotionally appealing than the other two scholarly articles.

Body Paragraph 5:
Main Point:
Ravenscrafts article contains personal content and relative evidence, making it a more
persuasive article than academic pieces.

How/Why It Supports My Argument:

This topic discusses the content and evidence Revenscraft uses in his blog to enhance
its personal and aesthetic relatedness.

!
!

Body Paragraph 6:
Main Point:
Even though scholarly articles are considered more credible than nonacademic
pieces, readers are more likely to emotionally relate when personal experiences are
included as sources of evidence.

How/Why It Supports My Argument:

This topic discusses how readers tend to react to content, and therefore how
Ravenscrafts content is more emotionally relatable for the audience.

Major Structural Changes:

Thankfully, there were no major structural changes at all in my WP2. After having
substantial structuring problems in my WP1, I made the structure of WP2 my first
priority. My issues were more content related, and focused more on incorporating more
evidence and describing my sources rather than solely analyzing the conventions.

How/Why Reverse Outlining Helps Re-See My Work:

Reverse outlining has helped me look at my work in a completely new light. Im able to
grasp exactly which is my main topic sentence, and where it is placed throughout the

paragraph. In addition, it has helped me to see where I need to be more clear and
provide more evidence within my arguments.
