2. A collective bargaining agreement is a mutual exchange of positions followed by
agreement. The people involved are a group of employees with a community of interest
to negotiate an agreement with their employer.
3. Teachers contracted hours and days depend on which grade level they teach. For high
school the employees have an eight period day with five assigned periods, one lunch
period, one preparation and one that is assigned by the administration. For Junior high
their day consists of nine periods which includes five assigned periods, one supervision,
two preparation, and one lunch period. But if they do not teach a certain curriculum
subject then they have six assigned periods, two preparation and one lunch. For early
childhood, they have a five day rotation. They also are entitled to a forty minute lunch
break. Last but not least, for elementary teachers they are expected to work no more than
26 hours per week.
4. Teachers for high school and junior high get assigned preparation periods while
elementary and early childhood get no less than about 150 minutes of preparation time
per week. These periods are not assigned specifically for any certain activities because
they are assigned these separately during their supervision periods.
5. The current evaluation process for teachers comes from procedures outlined in a
handbook. This handbook is known as Standards for Professional Practice: Evaluation
Procedures. Employees are scheduled for a formal evaluation each year. They are able to
submit his/her views on evaluation if they object to it by submitting it to the employees
personnel file if they wish.
6. Every teacher is obligated to implement the curriculum by the directions of the
administration. They are free to present this information in a framework of time they are
given and in a professional and appropriate manner. They are able to teach in whatever
matter they would like assuming that it is appropriate and in matter of good taste.
7. When it comes to class size, a teacher can only handle so many students. Depending on
the grade level, each teacher once reaching the maximum is given an aide for a certain
amount of hours per day. High school and junior high have a maximum of 160 students
and then a teacher is given an aide for four hours each employment day. For Grade K,
they have a maximum of 28 and then an aide clerk for three hours. Grade 1 maximum is
28 as well and given 3.5 hours of aide time. Grade 2-5 gets 3.5 hours of aide time when
their max reaches 30.
8. Teachers go through a mentoring program called Career 203. Its an adaptable program
that meets the needs of students and staff. It also reflects the evolution of the school
environment, culture, climate and demands.
9. All teachers are given fifteen days of sick leave each year and two personal days. If they
do not use one of those, sometimes they are given the opportunity to carry it over until
the next year and are given three.
10. A grievance is any claim by the association or an employee that there has been a
violation, misinterpretation, or misapplication of this agreement. This process is carried
out by the Association recognizing a grievance representative and they must be present
for all meetings, hearings or proceedings. It is carried without the interference or

interruption of the instructional program. They just want to give each person an equal
opportunity to attend and state their argument.
11. The salary for a first year teacher with a Bachelors degree for 2015-2016 would be
$46,972. The salary of a teacher with a Masters degree and 15 years experience for
2015-2016 is $80,156. As for the calculations, we used the kindergarten teachers hours.
For a Bachelors degree for one year, we got $49.71 per hour. For the Master's we got,
$84.82 per hour.
12. Extra duties are compensated depending on the particular duty. Duties such as extra
period assignments, internal substitutions, detention and lunchroom supervision make an
extra $19.00/hour. Other duties such as athletics or organizations make a percentage of
their salary more based on how long they have been employed.
13. Fringe benefits that are offered are a variety of things. For health insurance, it is
discussed each year with the board and through collective bargaining and varies from
year to year. Depending on what they choose they have a 30-30-15 percent formula
regardless. Life insurance is given to full time employees with a $50,000 term policy.
Long term disability is fully integrated with the Teacher Retirement System disability
with a coverage of about 70%. As for retirement, if they have worked for about fifteen
years, included will be the total of creditable earnings, increased by 6% of their final
years of service prior.

as a full time employee for twelve years can receive a retirement annuity from TRS.
