SCOPE OF STUDY

There is a doubt in mind of field engineer that

a. The availability of sub-grade soil based on CBR value will not be available
in field.
b. Implementation of Guidelines and Specifications for Design of Formation for
Heavy Axle Load GE- 14 for construction of embankment will raise the
construction cost of the project
Since the sub-grade soil will have to be improved from distant location
The thickness of the Blanket material will be increased as per new
specifications
c. To clarify the doubt a study was conducted in GE-Directorate RDSO to know
the availability of soil of desire specifications. The tests were conducted on
already available soil samples, which were collected from time to time from

zonal railways in reference to consultancies being rendered by GE

directorate. In all the 82 soil samples of 22 projects were available in GE
Laboratory. The geographic locations of these 22 projects are shown over
map of India Annexure XXIII The soil test results project-wise is available as
annexure 1 to XXII. The comparison of Blanket thickness has also been made
with old Guidelines and cost implication has also worked out.
