Design for
Learning
Representation
1.1 Offer ways
of customizing
the display of
information.
-Students will
watch a video,
discuss with
classmates and
teachers,
review on
devices and
work together
to create their
3D cell.
1.3 Offer
alternatives for
visual
information.
-Students will
work with
classmates and
a teacher to
complete the
activity.
2.2 Clarify
syntax and
structure.
-Each teacher
will have a
study sheet for
them to help
the students in
their activity.
2.5 Illustrate
Outcomes
GCO:
- Work co-operatively with team members
to develop and construct models of cells
(211-3)
-Distinguish between plant and animal cells
(304-5)
SCO: (in student friendly terms):
Students will be able to understand
the structure of a cell (plant and
animal) by creating a diorama of a
cell with their group.
Objective(s) for this lesson: For students to
understand the plant and animal cell and
how they are different.
Introduction
-To begin, state that todays lesson is the
final lesson of our cell unit and that you
all will be drawing upon what you
learned over the unit.
-From here, go over the agenda, which
you should have written on the board
prior to the beginning of the class (see
attached page for agenda).
APK - In groups, students can talk about
their respective cell (plant or animal)
based on what table they are at. Allow 2
minutes for this and then ask tables to
share with the class.
Focus Question
How are your cells as a human different
than plant cells?
During/Learning Activities
Begin the lesson with an overall question:
How are your cells as a human different
than plant cells?
-Discuss with your table the elements
within the two cells and record as a group.
Pull up a list of the actual elements on the
smartboard or whiteboard as a reference
-Explain why the video is appropriate for
