Overvold wins
a national title

The Glasgow Wrestling Club

Highlanders were dispatched across
the nation this past weekend for some
outstanding wrestling action.

A total of 38 grapplers competed
at the Circle Invitational, Black Hills
Nationals (Spearfish, South Dakota)
and Rocky Mountain Nationals
(Denver, Colorado), with many
coming away with some prestigious
hardware, including an individual
title in Spearfish as Trevor Overvold
wrestled his way to a first place finish.

The Highlanders will compete in
Sidney this weekend for the Inaugural
Brodie Gorder Memorial Elementary
Dual tournament.
Brodie was injured
by an ATV accident
that occurred on the
family ranch and God
took his little hand and
walked with him to
Brodie
heaven on August 18,
2013. He would have been 11 years
old now.
Brodies favorite thing in the
world was wrestling. He put on a
singlet at the age of three and became
a member of the Sidney Wrestling
Club. He was a champion and a

placer at many local and national

tournaments. Brodie was always
asking when the next match or trip
would be.
He had traveled to Sante Fe, N.M.,
twice for Grand Nationals, where
he placed in every style both years.
2012 was a big year of wrestling
accomplishments. In this year he was
a Greco Grand Nationals Champion
and he was the only wrestler on Team
Montana to complete a challenge and
score a 5-point throw. He was also a

Champion at the Big Sky State Games

in Billings, and he was on his first
official dual team for Sidney at the
Rumble on the Red in Fargo, North
Dakota.
His dream was to become a
Sidney Eagle High School wrestler
like his brothers and to have his name
on the wall of honors.
The Highlanders are honored
to be part of the Inaugural Brodie
Gorder Memorial Elementary Duals
in Sidney.

Jed Robinson Memorial Scholarship

The Third Annual Jed Robinson Memorial

Scholarship will be given away to one qualified
graduating senior during the annual Glasgow High
School Scholarships Awards Banquet in May of 2016.
This will be the third of 10 annual scholarships to be
given away in memory of Jed Robinson.

Jed was a 1986 graduate of Glasgow High School.
While attending GHS, Jed participated in numerous
clubs and activities including G-Club, Key Club, Boy
Scouts, football, and track & field. No one had an
unkind word to say about Jed during his time at GHS.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Patriot. He loved
the Air Force and the military in general, enlisting in
the Air Force in 1986. He traveled the world from Korea
to Africa to North Dakota and finally Texas during his
seven years of enlistment.

Jed died in Glasgow on November 2nd, 1993.
2016 graduating seniors can contact the GHS
Counselors office for a list of requirements and an
application for the scholarship. The application deadline
is April 22nd, 2016.

Thomas LaRoque and the GHS Class of 1986 have
established the Jed Robinson Memorial Scholarship
fund at Valley Bank in Glasgow. Those wanting to
donate to the scholarship fund can send in a donation

Pete Schuster
Peter Edward Schuster,
77, of Glentana, Montana,
passed peacefully from this
earth on Saturday, March 19,
2016.
Pete was born in
Glasgow, Montana, on March
15, 1939. He grew up in
Glentana and spent some
years at St. Thomas Orphans
Home in Great Falls after his
mother passed away when he was 10. He graduated from
Opheim High School in 1957. Pete served in the Air Force
from then until his father died in 1960, when he took over
the farm in Glentana. He was a farmer for the rest of his life.
He married Joyce (Joy) Raemaeker in 1965. He also earned
a bachelors degree in Vocational Education from Northern
Montana College (NMC) and taught at Mountain Plains
(former Glasgow Air Force Base), NMC, and Opheim High
School.

Pete was a farmer at heart, loving family man, and faithful
Catholic. Pete and Joy prayed together every day. He cared
deeply for his students and the people of North Valley County.
He loved to learn and be of service. Pete enjoyed music
ministry with his guitar and the promise of springtime. He
was a card player, Guinness sipper with friend Lyle Walstad,
poetry reciter with friend Jerry Hoffman, old tractor fixer,
Tom & Jerry maker, and soft-hearted grump with an elusive,
wry sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Delia
Schuster, step-mother Barbara Schuster, Sister Mae Schuster,
and his granddaughter Kaylee Mae Schuster.

He is survived by his wife, Joy, of Glentana, children Paul
(Kris), Rose (Bill Wadman), all of Great Falls, Andy (Rosanny)
of North Carolina, Steve (Tracy) of Glentana, and Becky (Ryan
Rusche) of Columbia Falls; his grandchildren Kelsie, Kasey,
Kayla, Kylie, Kali, Tia, Shea, Heidy, Ian, Greg, Kerriann, Holli,
Kort, Jesse, and Rafe; several great-grandchildren; siblings
Babs Burke of Ireland, Joe (Stevi) Schuster, Father Tony
Schuster, all of Billings, Jerry (Theresa) Schuster of Bozeman,
and Doris Doyle of Spokane, Washington.

A vigil for Pete will be held Wednesday, March 23 at
7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Parish in Glentana. His funeral is
Thursday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Family with
burial in Glentana Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the
Glentana Hall.

Pete had a special interest in making sure no one went
hungry. Anyone wishing to make a memorial is asked to
contribute to the Valley County Food Bank or your local food
pantry.

Let us help.

Up the hill and around the bend to the finish line, Fruit and refreshments awaited the participants of Slam the Dam 2.

Fort Peck Seniors Slam the Dam 2 had good turnout

The Slam the Dam 2 event
held on Saturday, March 19, 2016
was deemed to be another success
story. There were about the same
number of runners and walkers as
last yearsixty plus.

There was very little wind so the
registration and starting setup was at
the west end this year. The walk/run
began at light pole 1 and finished
at light pole 88approximately a
4-mile distance. Participants were
from as near as Fort Peck and as far
away as Seattle.
The starting gun went off at
10:00 and all were off. Weather was
perfect, once the race got started:
cool and cloudy, with no wind.
All ages were representedfrom a

young baby in a stroller to young

children, older children, young
adults, older adults, and yes, even
OLDER adults! Some ran to set
their own personal best times and
many walked just to achieve the
accomplishment of completing the
entire distance. Law enforcement
from McCone County and Valley
County were present to help
with traffic control. A wonderful
addition this year was the presence
of the Valley County EMT crew who
used the Fort Peck ambulance and
followed the group, just in case of
any accidents.
Numerous Fort Peck Senior
Citizens Organization members
were on hand to register people,

monitor the walkers/runners, hand

out goodies at the end, and drive
participants back to their vehicles
upon completion.
Participants
received a special Slam the Dam 2
bumper sticker, water and mandarin
oranges. Many were already talking
about next years Slam the Dam
event. We love Slam the Dam was
what one person said.
The Fort Peck Senior citizens
were pleased that the event went so
well. More than $400 in entry fees
and donations was raised toward
their current Ft. Peck Town Sign
project to erect one and/or possibly
more signs welcoming people to
Fort Peck. Thanks, and see ya next
year!!!
