Genre

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Most of the music videos that are made to the genre of my chosen song are usually very
dramatic and slow but then fast at some points. They usually have a death in them or
something sad. The style is usually an interpretive video which means that the lyrics dont
much up to the video.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

The style of my music video is interpretive, the not many of the lyrics match up with the
filming so the audience can have their own idea. This song is also a homage to another song
which is not as dramatic. I will also be cutting to the beat a lot in my music video.

Costume
I only have two characters in my music video. I want the male character to be wearing green
clothes like a hunter and the female character to wear something white.

Lighting
I am going to be filming this outside so I will need it to be daylight because I cant get any
artificial lights into the woods. I want to film this on a clear day with no rain =.

Locations
All of my music video will be set in the woods on college grounds. The reason why I have
chosen to use college grounds is because one of the characters in my video can only film
there.

Shot types
I want to have a lot of low and high angles in my music video, I think it has more of a
dramatic effect. Also I want to have lots of close ups and side shots.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
When researching this genre I found a song similar called Alt J Breezeblocks. This
is a slightly faster passed song but I think it is just as dramatic. The lyrics in this
music have nothing to do with the video, my first idea was similar to this as I didnt
want fottage matching with the lyrics but after listening to my song a lot of times I
decided to slightly relate to them and make my music video about if the nuclear war
in the 70s actually happened.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences
Yes, I found that this curtain music video influenced me for some of my ideas. The music video for Breezeblocks
is all in revers and when I saw this I wanted some of my scenes in revers to. I think this is a very effective way of
filming and can be more dramatic as well. This will work perfectly as I want my music video to be dramatic.

Lyrics
Insert the song lyrics below

Welcome to your life

There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you

Acting on your best behaviour

Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own design

It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most

Of freedom and of pleasure

Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you

Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it

So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

Everybody wants to rule the world

Everybody wants to rule the world

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

This song was specifically made for a movie The Hunger Games and it was a
homage off another song with the same lyrics and title but just in a different style of
genre. The title of this song is Everybody Wants To Rule The World so for my music
video I was think of filming what would of happened if the nuclear war actually
happened during the Second World War and the Cold War. Some lyrics in this song
will be related to the footage to have a stronger effect on the audience.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
When I first heard this song I didnt want to relate the visuals to the song but after listening to
the lyrics a lot of times I decided to relate them a lot. There is no real meaning to this song
but because the title is Everybody Wants To Rule The World I thought I would make the
video on what happened of there was a nuclear war during the second world war and the
cold war. Some of the lyrics go really well with the visuals. For example in the song one of
the lyrics are nothing ever last of ever. It this scene I want to have a time laps of a flower
dying. This should have a strong effect because it is showing a form of life dying and people
can compare it to human beings.
