Sex Trafficking, a Global Issue

Do you ever wonder what sex trafficking is? Sex trafficking is a form of modern day
slavery, involving the abuse, rape, and selling of mostly women and girls. Women are most
commonly forced into prostitution, yet there are cases where men and children get prostituted as
well. Sex trafficking is a growing scourge of humanity, and its watchdog the law. Sex trafficking
is the biggest struggle of the 21 century because its still taking place this day in age. There are
still prostitutes that are been forced to have sex with any men, therefore they are violated and
abused. These slaves are the victims of the growing international practice of human trafficking,
making this form of modern day slavery a global issue.
For example, todays generation involves a lot of sex trafficking, which is still happening
and increasing every day. The first reason why sex trafficking still happens is because of money.
Criminal organizations traffic in order to make money and wound up treating them like slaves.
Criminals dont care if its against the law, they just want to make business with other
organizations that sell or prostitute people. To add on, another reason is because more customers
are increasing the price for prostitutes and victims forced into rape. A person who pays for sexual
services is sometimes called "Johns. Therefore, human trafficking is the third most profitable
business for organized crime; the first and second are drug and gun trafficking. However, now
many drug traffickers are switching to human trafficking due to higher profits and lower risk.
Thats why sex trafficking is occurring more in this generation. The last reason is because
nobody helps to stop sex trafficking and for it to stop increasing. Furthermore, The United
Nations estimates the total number of people trafficked every year is between 700 thousand and 1
million. It also estimates that 79 percent of these victims are trafficked for sexual exploitation.

Eventually, Human trafficking still takes place in every country and it generates tens of billions
of dollars of profit each year. Those are the major reasons why it wont stop because traffickers
know they will earn a lot more money out of it by getting people to become prostitutes and been
raped. In fact, those are one of the organizations that make a lot of money.
With regards to this, theres a lot of countries that are affected by Human trafficking.
Human trafficking affects every country of the world, as countries of origin, transit or
destination, or even a combination of all. Trafficking often occurs from less developed countries
to more developed countries, where people are rendered vulnerable to trafficking by virtue of
poverty, conflict or other conditions. Most trafficking is national or regional, but there are also
notable cases of long-distance trafficking. For example, Europe is the destination for victims
from the widest range of destinations, while victims from Asia are trafficked to the widest range
of destinations. The Americas are prominent both as the origin and destination of victims of
human trafficking. More than 90% of countries have legislation criminalizing human trafficking
since the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons. Especially Women
and Children, under the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime,
came into force more than a decade ago. In other words, theres an increase in the number of
detected child victims, particularly girls under 18. However, between 2010 and 2012, victims
holding citizenship from 152 different countries were found in 124 countries. Indeed, since that
time human trafficking has been increasing more and more victims are growing each time. More
importantly, it is equally clear that without robust criminal justice responses, human trafficking
will remain a low-risk, high profit activity for criminals. Trafficking happens everywhere, but as
this report shows most victims are trafficked close to home, within the region or even in their
country of origin, and their exploiters are often fellow citizens. In some areas, trafficking for

armed combat or petty crime, for example, are significant problems. Human trafficking has many
faces and forms. Theres the pimp enslaving and exploiting young girls in cities across the
United States, where an estimate of 100,000 girls are trafficked at present. When in fact, there
are men who buy young boys in Ghana, forcing them into lives of servitude and hard labor,
spending long days in flimsy boats in the Lake Volta region, hunched over their fishing lines
under a scorching sun. By the way, prostitution is illegal in all states except certain parts of
Nevada. In that case, that shows that some places are doing nothing to stop it. Which thats the
reason why its increasing more every time. Therefore, sex trafficking is becoming a major
problem that needs to be stop starting with Nevada.
On the other hand, there are ways of how to avoid sex trafficking. And to help fight it.
For instance, to help fight sex trafficking, learn the red flags that may indicate human trafficking
and ask follow up questions, so that you can help identify a potential trafficking victim. Human
trafficking awareness training is available for individuals, businesses, first responders, law,
enforcement, and federal employees. Also, joining a grassroots anti-trafficking coalition, an
organization that helps fight sex trafficking. Meet with or write to your local, state, and federal
government representatives to let them know that you care about combating human trafficking in
your community, and ask what they are doing to address human trafficking in your area. But
mostly, host an awareness event to watch and discuss a recent human trafficking documentary.
On a larger scale, host a human trafficking film festival. In summary, to help avoid it, you could
help support local law enforcement. For of all, find out how a church can help victims from sex
trafficking, as they address this concern in your community. For example, when one church in
Arizona discovered that police officers who picked up young girls, who were being prostituted
were buying the hungry girl's meals and covering the cost themselves, church members donated

a large number of fast food gift cards. The church gave them to the citys vice officers, assuring
the officers that they would be covering them in prayer. Anyways, many cities have task forces
that address community trafficking issues and allow citizens to be part of the panel. Overall,
always be aware of traffickers tactics, and talk with your children, school administrators, youth
leaders, and anyone working with children or teens. Conversely, you got to be aware that
Traffickers can be male or female, even classmates. Traffickers may even be teens or use kids to
recruit other kids. Unfortunately, traffickers can frequent locations where teens do and often post
false profiles as teen boys and girls on social media sites. The average age of entry into forced
prostitution is twelve to thirteen. Most victims are young women, but boys are also at risk.
Seeing a young teen girl with a much older boyfriend should raise a red flag. For most young
women who are prostituted, this is how their story begins. While traffickers may approach young
women in malls, posing as talent scouts, or modeling agents with legitimate-appearing
credentials. Lastly, you got to be alert when traveling. Even Though most friendly strangers are
authentic, never agree to go somewhere with anyone or allow yourself to be separated from your
group. People, especially young people, traveling abroad can be naive. So arm them with safe
traveling tips so that they are not vulnerable to those who would exploit them. To conclude with,
this shows you good ways to avoid been trafficked and to be safe. So keep this in mind of always
to be alert that sex trafficking is a really big issue that will always be a problem that will always
occur, if we dont do anything about it.
Some people believe that Sex Trafficking is too big of a problem that cant be fixed, and
it still occur in this generation that cant be stopped. The first reason why some people believe it
cant be fixed is because traffickers are rising more every time, and they are the reason why there
are more victims that are been forced to be prostitutes and been raped. For example, if there were

no traffickers who kidnap people then there wouldnt be any rape victims and prostitutes. But
mostly sex trafficking wouldnt exist. But because of them, sex trafficking still occurs. Secondly,
nobody is helping or taking an action for it to be stopped. Lastly, some people might believe that
sex trafficking will still occur because its increasing more every time. By the fact that those
victims were captured by traffickers because they were not careful. But mostly because they
werent alert from it by their family and friends. Especially, they werent informed about how to
be careful when been outside alone and not taking action for it. Even though its still a big
problem, people should try to stop it, or else it will get worse and there will be no control.
As a final point, I believe sex trafficking could stop, if we unite together and mostly take
action for it. By been in a campaign to fight trafficking in your community. You can also fight
trafficking by buying from companies that have transparent and slave-free supply chains,
volunteering for or donating to organizations that are fighting for trafficking. Afterwards, talking
to your family and friends about it is a good way to start. Together, the world can fight
trafficking by having confidence; and eradicate sex trafficking entirely.
