Several factors along my life have influence my decision for a teaching profession, yet
my main factor has been desire to help others. My life was greatly impacted when I moved to
United States, because I was a newcomer to the system, culture, life style, traditions, cuisine,
and language. It was difficult to simply try to survive in an unfamiliar setting with no friends or
relatives. During my endeavor for survival, I started meeting people that became role models
later in my life. The help and support received from specific instructors along my journey have
been my inspiration to also help others in need.
As a child, I was not able to comprehend how much my instructors were influencing my
life until I was able to undergo trough the experience myself. During my high school years, I
accumulated a great desire to help others struggling to incorporate into the system. I will never
forget the hardship of trying to fit in with classmates, nor how they would refuse to help me
understand our school work. It was inevitable to dislike school after so much rejection. My
instructors at that time taught me to cope with such situation by concentrating in my studies and
avoiding conflicts. Thanks to all the support from my instructors who were strangers at the
time, I was able to continue my path. I also concluded that there is a great need for students to
learn and understand about generosity for those in need.
During my senior year at high school, I volunteer as a teachers aide in the newcomers
classroom. The students under the program at that time were struggling with algebra, and the
algebra teacher was having a hard time trying to cover all the material without getting behind.
The extra time she had to use in order to help the newcomers was affecting the whole class. It
was then decided to give me the opportunity to work with the newcomers by teaching them
algebra. I enjoyed the experience so much and the feeling of satisfaction and gratification
because I was able to help others that were standing where I had stood before.

My experience helped to conclude that teaching is what I want to do the rest of my life. I
now know that can reach others by sharing my skills, helping them, and being a role model as
my teachers were to me. I also understand that by becoming a teacher not only can I influence
students, but I can also influence parents. I can guide parents to become more involved by
working hand by hand with their childrens schools in order to cooperatively guide their children
to be successful in school and in life.
