Body: The instructor gives the student a handout of instructions that include pictures of
each step in the task.
This lesson is to show how to install a video card into a PCIe slot on a motherboard,
install the drivers for the device and configure the computers BIOS to use the card. An
additional part of the lesson is to demonstrate each step and provide additional support
until you are ready to apply new skills and finally complete the project yourself.
The Instructor will motivate the student's interests by describing successful completion
of similar projects hes completed in interesting work environments. If you pay
attention, do what we show you and work hard you will know what youre doing and
become an IT professional. People come to you to help them and will be looking for you
services.
We have made the tasks easier by giving you Step by Step instructions with pictures of
each step in a handout. One of us will work with you one on one and then let you try it
with the pictures of each step in the handout to provide direction. Theres nothing to
worry about, itll be fun.
One of us will show you how to do each task. When you are ready we will then let you
do it by yourself and put the parts of the project together. You will start with easier tasks
and when your successful, combine these tasks until you complete the entire project.
Youll show us each task and then move up the ladder of success
The Instructor will measure progress by a checklist of steps necessary for completion.
These evaluations of the single (simpler) tasks will indicate that the student is ready to
add additional parts of the project. There may be more than one lesson and or execution
of the tasks until the project is completed.
Summary: This lesson showed how to install a video card into a PCIe slot on a
motherboard, install the drivers for the device and configure the computers BIOS to use
the card. The additional goal of the lesson was to use scaffolding to give students who
need it additional support until they can apply new skills and project plans themselves.
The Instructor attempted to motivate the student's interests by describing a successful
completion of the project in interesting work environments. The goals are to have the
student see themselves as a competent and knowledgeable professional and building
self-esteem.
The lesson attempted to simplify the tasks by giving step by step instructions verbally
and in a handout. The guide worked one on one with the student, providing visual
representations of each step, to provide direction, reduce frustration and risk.
Demonstrations by the Instructor and upper level persons modeling the correct execution
of the task. The student saw someone do the task first.
The lesson faded the assignments complexity by starting with easier tasks and, if the
student is successful, combined the tasks into an entire project.
Progress was evaluated by a checklist of steps necessary for completion
Evaluation/Student Assessment: The students progress was evaluated by a checklist of
steps necessary for completion of tasks.
