1. The artifacts displayed under Standard 4 were collected as an assignment in GEDU 548
Group Guidance and Counseling in the Schools. This could fit within the GC/RS sections of the
National Model.
Competencies addressed:
1: Implement developmentally appropriate interventions involving group dynamics, counseling
theories, group counseling methods and skills, and other group work approaches.
2: Apply knowledge of group counseling in implementing appropriate group processes for
elementary, middle school, and secondary students.

2. What do they demonstrate to you about your learning and mastery of the competencies which
fall under this standard?
The artifacts shown here show that methods are implemented in regards to creating a group
lesson plan as background research is established first and foremost. Rationale for group work,
objectives, consent, and letter to teachers/parents were also taken into account while creating the
plans, which shows both appropriate approaches and processes in accordance to competencies
4:1 and 4:2.
Not only do the artifacts show learning/mastery of developing a group unit of lesson plans, but it
also shows personal learning with group work as this was a group project itself. I believe that
understanding how groups may interact together oneself is essential when beginning group work
with students.

3. What do these items of evidence tell you about your overall progress toward your personal
goals and your growth as a professional school counselor?

I believe that these items show that I take into account many different items before creating
group work. Not only is taking into account group dynamic important, but also establishing
background research on the subject at hand and building a rational and objectives off of that. It is
crucial to be knowledgeable about the content area being discussed.
These items can also show how I can create a specific unit of lesson plans for group work, and
do so while using group work myself. It is important to be able to create a variety of units that
can be helpful for different types of groups, from coping with divorced parents or coping with
death to building social skills.

4. What are your plans for additional growth or improvement in this area?
To improve in the area of group work, I plan to keep researching and developing different lesson
plan units that can be useful and appropriate for groups. Likewise, I plan to put group work into
practice more.
