Assignment 3.1 - Cultural Leadership Assessment Team (CLAT)

The Cultural Leadership Assessment Team (CLAT) included a teacher

months to over thirty years. The members were selected based on
their ability to be fair and objective. Team members completed the

Individually, the scores fall within the range whereby the Team believes
the staffs actions demonstrate a Culture-Under-Construction.
The CLAT, with the exception of Teacher A, rated the core staff action in
each area as a 4 in all but question 8. Teacher A gave a rating of 3
for questions 4, 7, and 8.
Question 4 focuses on the school improvement plan. Teacher A gave
the rational that the staff begins the year strong focused on topics and
actions that support the school improvement plan, but falters a bit midyear. The CLAT agreed this is an area that is often overlooked later in

the school year and came to the consensus to give question 4 a rating
of 3. The recommendation was to make it part of the monthly
Leadership Team agenda so as not to neglect continuous improvement
as part of the school improvement plan in the latter months of the year
when end-of-year testing becomes the focus.
Question 7 addresses how failures and accomplishments are
acknowledged. Teacher A agrees there is fair acknowledgement of
accomplishments, but is unsure of failures. Failures are not discussed
publicly, therefore; the Team is not aware of whether or not the system
is fair or consistent. After some discussion, the CLAT decided because
they are not aware of the process for individual failures, that is a good
sign and decided on a rating of 4.
For question 8, the CLAT agreed on a rating of 3 with the exception of
Teacher D who gave a rating of 4. The discussion focused on lack of
consideration several staff members have for performing duties or
being on time. They felt by continuously being inconsiderate those
staff members are not making a positive contribution to the culture.
The CLAT came to a consensus to give question 8 a rating of 3.
The CLAT scored Southern Nash Middle School 38 which translates to
the staffs actions demonstrate a Culture-Under-Construction. When
asked why they did not rate any questions as a 5, the members
explained that a 5 would indicate there is no room for improvement
and there is still growning to be done.
