1. What is the title of your work? Why is it named that?

The title of my work is: Blended into the Backgrounded because of how my
skin blends into the background of the portrait (or at least what you can see
behind my hair ).
2. What materials did you use to create your work of art?
Recycled Cardboard, Puzzle Pieces, Paint, Gesso, Newspaper, Glue, Sharpie,
Transparency.
3. How is your work of art a mash-up of ideas/materials? (what two
things are mixed together to become a mash up?)
It is a mash-up because it combines the different materials to create one
whole piece.

4. What elements of art are in your work? Be specific and detailed.

Where do you see them?
I see lines in the outlines of the puzzle pieces, the wrinkles in the newspaper,
and the actual outline of me. I see color in every part of the piece since it is
painted with a bunch of different colors. There is Texture in the shape of the
puzzle pieces and the wrinkles of the newspaper. You can see the positive
space in the outline of me and some of my facial features. There is negative
space in the background and my skin, which are the same color.

5. What principles of design are in your work? Be specific and detailed.

Where do you see them?
There is balance between my tongue sticking out and the angle of my face.
There is rhythm and pattern in the puzzle pieces and contrast between the
purple gradient and the green gradient. Unity is shown between the color I
made my skin and the color of the background.
6. Do you feel your work is successful? Why or why not?
I feel my work is an accomplishment because it has a meaningful theme and
it won first place in the Junkyard Art Wars Recycled Art Competition.
*Save the artist statement under your number and upload the statement
AND attach a picture of your mashup under the assessment section of your

Blended into the Background

The title of my work is: Blended into the Backgrounded because of how my skin blends
into the background of the portrait (or at least what you can see behind my hair ). I used
recycled cardboard, puzzle pieces, paint, gesso, newspaper, and glue. It is considered a mash-up
because it combines the different materials to create one whole piece.
In my work I see lines in the outlines of the puzzle pieces, the wrinkles in the newspaper,
and the actual outline of me. I see color in every part of the piece since it is painted with a bunch
of different colors. There is Texture in the shape of the puzzle pieces and the wrinkles of the
newspaper. You can see the positive space in the outline of me and some of my facial features.
There is negative space in the background and my skin, which are the same color. There is
balance between my tongue sticking out and the angle of my face. There is also rhythm and
pattern in the puzzle pieces and contrast between the purple gradient and the green gradient.
Unity is shown between the color I made my skin and the color of the background.
I feel my work is an accomplishment because it conveys a meaningful
theme, which is that however much you try to fit in, you still have to be
yourself too. I also feel my art is successful because it won first place in the
Junkyard Art Wars Recycled Art Competition. My piece also feels complete
and is aesthetically which I feel is an accomplishment.
