Unit: Lacrosse

Lesson: Cradling & Shooting


Grade: 6th
Time :50 min
Goal(s): Students will
1. understand how to properly cradle the ball while moving.
2. understand how to accurately shoot at a goal with and without a goal tender.
Michigan Standards:
M.IG.06.02 demonstrate selected on-the-ball tactical movements of scoring (e.g., passing,
receiving, shooting, attacking the goal, creating space), preventing scoring (e.g., defending
space, defending goal, winning the object), and starting/restarting game play (e.g., to initiate
play or from sideline) during modified invasion games (e.g., small-sided games, such as 3 vs.
3).
Today we are going to work on in the ball movements. We will review skill such as passing and
receiving and introduce cradling and shooting.
Timeline:
5 min - Change into PE Clothes
5 min - Shoot around
3-5 min - Dynamic Warm-ups (high knees, butt kickers, karaoke, high knee skip, bounders,
backwards, 80%, 90%, Race, 10 push-ups, & 10 sit-ups)
5-7 min - Verbal Review of skills from day prior check for understanding & Introduction of new
skills (Check for Understanding). (Cradling & Shooting)
10 min - Mass practice the skill of Cradling running the length of the gym. Divide class into 3
teams to have a cradling relay.(Check if goal has been met)
10 min - Split the class into 6 groups to work on shooting at a goal without a goalie, then with a
goalie.
10 min - Check to see if goals have been met. Clean up Equipment/Personal Hygiene/Change
and Prepare for next class.
