6. Explain the influences of geography on a target culture, including food, clothing,
dwellings, and the arts.
9. Compare traditions and social conventions of a target culture to ones own.

Learning Objectives:
Blooms:
1.) Students will be able to remember important facts about Colombia
2.) Students will be able to compare and contrast Colombias culture to their own

Instructional Model: Lecture- Discussion

This lesson fits the Lecture-Discussion Model of instruction because the teachers will
provide the students with organized bodies of knowledge. The instructors will ensure student
learning by asking questions and allowing discussion. At the end of the lesson, all important
facts will be summarized and highlighted.

1. Identifying Topic:
The topic has to be an organized body of knowledge. Colombia and how its diverse
geography influences various aspects of the Colombian culture is such a topic.

2. Learning Objectives According to Strategies and Models for teachers (p. 296)
Students should know what the learning objectives are due to the vast amount of
information
Students should be given the learning objects at the beginning of the lesson
Teachers need to think deeply about the objectives because of generalization,
facts, and concepts

3. Structure the Content
The content needs to be well organized
The content needs to be structured
Content should be sequenced and given to students in a matrix
The teacher always needs to keep students background knowledge in mind

4. Prepare Lesson Instructions
Give students an advance organizer (framework)

Materials:
Prezi
Two different graphic organizers
Post-it notes

Pencils
Video clips


Engagement (the hook): Students will be asked to write what they know about Colombia on
post-it notes. Every thought is fair game and welcomed.

Special Education Accommodation:
This Spanish II class has no children who receive special education services or ELL students.
Therefore, no accommodations are needed.

Procedures:
1.) Jeremy and Nadine will arrange the desks in groups of six before class. The topics
will be written on the board.
2.) Bell work: Create a name tag and gather thoughts about Colombia
3.) Nadine will introduce the lesson about Colombia and make the students familiar with
all the topics.
4.) Nadine will introduce the learning objectives to the students. Jeremy will handout
post-it notes to all students.
5.) Students will be asked to write a word or two on the note and place it under the
appropriate category on the board.
6.) Jeremy and Nadine will assess the notes. Jeremy leads a discussion about the first
impressions while Nadine hands out graphic organizers.
7.) Start of the Prezi presentation. Students will be asked frequent questions throughout
the lesson to ensure understanding of the topic.
8.) Jeremy will discuss the geography of Colombia and how it influences dwellings and
the arts.
9.) Nadine will introduce the class to how the geography of Colombia influences food,
clothing, and the economy of Colombia. Furthermore, how all this has influenced
Colombia and what we hear about Colombia in the news.
10.) Jeremy will hand out another graphic organizer that will help students compare
and contrast their culture to the culture of Colombia.
11.) Students will be encouraged to work in groups and share their thoughts
throughout the lesson.
12.) A discussion will take place and the students will be asked to write what they
have learned on post-it notes and place them on the board.
13.) Nadine and Jeremy will summarize the lesson and end it.

Assessment:
1. Students previous knowledge of the topic will be assessed with the help of post-it notes.
2. Student learning will be assessed with the help of frequent questions.
3. Students will be assessed through observations during discussions and group work.
4. Students will write a short essay touching on the topics of the lesson to ensure they
understand.
5. Students knowledge after the lesson will be assessed through post-it notes.

Diversity:

Students will be allowed to work in groups
Students will be able to compare their culture to somebody elses
Student will have to learn to listen to different opinion during discussions
