Lesson Title: How to properly set up a step ladder.
Lesson Objectives: Given a diagram of a step ladder, students will be able to identify the
parts of a ladder by taking a five question quiz with 100% accuracy.
Time (length of lesson): 10 minutes
Equipment and Materials needed: Ladder diagram, Ladder Diagram Quiz, pencils
Academic Standard(s) and Anchor(s) and/or Common Core Standard addressed by this
lesson: Standard CC3.5.9-10 A and Standard CC3.5.11-12 A.

Introduction: ATTENTION GETTER!
Improperly set up ladder falls over!
Body: Bullet point summary
Hand out diagrams
Review names of the parts of the ladder
Refer to actual ladder positioned at front of classroom
Go over improper ways to set up ladder (ex.: legs not level, braces not locked,
leaning against a wall, highest standing level, weight limit, etc.)
Collect diagrams
Hand out 5 question quiz
Collect quiz as students complete them
Summary: Today we discussed the parts of a ladder and also the safest methods of using
them.
