Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 6. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs a) identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They b) know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practice. They c) are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that d) integrate knowledge from a variety of sources. They are e) informed advocates for sound education practices and policies. Brief Description of Evidence: During the summer semester of 2015, I did my Preschool Practicum at Gateway Association Inc. While doing my practicum, which is where I have a lead teacher be my mentor who helped me understand my Philosophy of Teaching, which I used throughout my practicum and now my job. I did orientation which consisted of a variety of trainings such as first aid and CPR, Creative Curriculum, Developmentally appropriate practice training, and universal precautions training. Through my trainings and my professionalism implementation of them throughout my practicum I gained a job at Gateway Association Inc. Analysis of What I Learned: While doing my practicum I learned how to integrate knowledge from a variety of sources. I learned how I wanted to teach and what my Philosophy of education was through working collaboratively with my mentor. Through the trainings and my practice in them I learned how to be a well-informed advocator for sound education practices and policies by using new recourses and ideas that other workers gave me. While going through my practicum and orientation I learned how to conduct myself as a member of the early childhood profession in a respectable, collaborate, and ethical way. How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard: With going through my practicum I learned how to conduct myself as a member of the earth childhood profession through being a continuous, collaborative learner who demonstrates knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on my work, making informed decisions through observations done by myself and peers then reflecting on how to improve my

skills. I am able to integrate knowledge from a variety of sources by working
with other professionals and gaining their knowledge and using sources found online that tie into the curriculum that is being used. Through working with other professionals and using knowledge gained through trainings I am able to be an informed advocate for sound education practices and policies by using what the knowledge gained through my practicum and orientation.
