Final Summative
Research
Assignment
KINESIOLOGY

1. What are your academic goals in the near future and distant?
My academic goals for the near future consist of staying on the honour roll
and achieving a higher grade than the average for each of my classes. In the
distant future, I want to stay on the honour roll throughout the high school. I
also want to plan and choose coursed that help me achieve my goal for the
field that I would like to enter for university and careers.
2. Name and describe the chosen profession. Give at least two reasons
why you chose this job.
I would like to become a physiotherapist and a fitness/personal trainer. I think
both professions coincide with each other. I want to be a physiotherapist
because I am a kinesthetic learner and love being on my feet and Im a very
hands-on person. Also I would like to help people recover from injuries
because I know how it feels when you cant participate in sports or when its
hard to perform daily movements due to an injury. I would like to be a
fitness/personal trainer because I really enjoy being active and working out. I
would also feel very accomplished and happy to help people achieve their
fitness goals.
3. How can you prepare yourself for this occupation? Describe the
possibilities to volunteer, jobs or co-op placements.
If I join a cross fit gym there could be possible opportunities for co-op or
volunteer work if I stay there for long enough. I can also apply for co-op or
volunteer work at local physiotherapy and massage therapy locations in
aurora that are familiar to me.
4. Do you know someone who practices the profession? What kind of
advice can they give you?
Ive also gone through many physiotherapists because of my history of
injuries and theyve given me advice and told me about their path through
high school and university and how they got the job. Advice that could be
given to me is that I need to work hard and to get into kinesiology I need to
have a good understanding of how the body works so I dont harm others.
(Overworking in fitness or pinching a nerve in therapy)

Based on the information you researched from the colleges or

universities, what career/job opportunities will this program offer?
Name and discuss at least 3 professions/career options.
This degree in kinesiology can lead to many career options. These options
include physiotherapist, sports coach/agent, athletic therapist, massage
therapist and/or manager and more.

Will you have more than one degree? Example: Pharmacy, medicine,
law.
To go along with the degree of kinesiology, I think that I will get business
degree to help me run my own business in the future.

What are the prospects for current and future jobs in this
occupation? Give two trends that could affect your chances of getting
a job in this field. Cite your references.
The amount of jobs that are available for this degree in Ontario is fairly good.
It is more towards a lower number though. It could be hard to get a job as a
fitness trainer because there are YouTube videos for workouts and even CDs.
It might be hard to get a job as a physiotherapist because it is expensive for
some people and its not something you constantly need, unless there is a
serious injury.

Discuss the salary for your chosen career. The annual salary, per
month or hourly. Can this salary support your chosen lifestyle?
Physiotherapist: $40000-$100000.
Personal Trainer: $30000-$140000

What training is required for this profession? What kind of certificate

do you receive with this training?

PAGE 3

You need an undergraduate and then you need to go into the Masters
program for physiotherapy. To become a physiotherapist, you must also be
registered with Health and Care Professions Council.

After you have done your research, discuss three advantages and
three disadvantages of this occupation or the career you have
chosen.
Advantages:

Flexible hours
Keeps you active
Benefit of helping people achieve their goals
Can run from home
Disadvantages:

Takes a lot of energy

Can overwork your body leading to injury
Can have difficult clients

After you have reflected on the pluses and minuses of this career, is
this still a job that interests you?
After reflecting on the pros and cons of the career of being a personal trainer, I
do think that I would still like to pursue this career. Fitness is something that I
really enjoy and it would make it better to get paid for doing what I love.

Are your interests and values relevant to this career? Discuss how
each of them relates to the occupation. (1)
Yes, my interests and values are relevant to this career. Success is important
and being a fitness trainer can help me push myself and others to become
successful in fitness. It also take positive attitude and vibes in this job which is
extremely important in life. You cant be successful unless you delete
negativity.

Discuss the results of your research. Write a paragraph on the three

institutions and programs and why they were chosen. What are the
benefits and drawbacks of these courses and institutions?
In this research assignment, I have concluded that I would love to go to
western for kinesiology. It is one of the best institutions on Canada for this
program. I am going to work hard and ensure that I excel in school to be able
to attend this program at Western. Western has lots of award winning
professors that will help with my learning. I think that the only down side to
this school is that it is known to be a party school, but it will help me make
friends. I just have to make sure that I focus more on my school work.

PAGE 4

Describe the methods and learning skills that will help you to
succeed in the program that interests you.
Being a personal trainer takes a lot of body movement. This is good for me
because Im a definite kinesthetic learner. I am constantly moving and need to
be active. Also, learning parts of the body in kinesiology is difficult when you
dont have visuals. I will ensure that I am using visuals in notes to understand
the content of what I am learning.
