Operational Risks
Students carrying out the above experiment should be warned or reminded of the following
Operational Risk
Personal protection equipment must be worn; ie safety glasses, gloves
Glassware can be broken
At the end of the experiment there will be a hot Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze or
glassware
That objects in ovens/water baths above 350C must be handled with care
Sharp and pointed object (ie Scalpels) are used and can cause personal injury
You should report any visible defect in an electrical cable before plugging into
the mains
To have the electrical circuit they have built checked before power is connected
to it
The need for care and hygiene practices when handling micro-organisms
The students must be physically fit and healthy to be able to participate in
