Assessment Technology
Lesson Topic: Science fair project
Students may choose a topic in science that they would like to
experiment with. For example buying three of the same plants
and nurturing them each with different substances. One could be
fed with Gatorade, another could be fed with milk, and the last
one could be fed with Kool-Aid. The idea of this specific
experiment is to see which plant grows the fastest.
Again students may be creative and choose their own
experiment.
At the end of the experiment they must create a PowerPoint that
includes the following information:
Project title
Materials needed
The procedure on what occurred during the experiment
Results
Abstract
Hypothesis
Some background research
Conclusion
Images (minimum of 5 needed)
Student must be able to present the assignment to the class and
explain how the experiment took place and any difficulties that
occurred.

Importance of Student Centered Technology
According to the Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher
Education, Taking responsibility for ones own learning is an essential
practice in a higher education (Abdelmalak, 2013). It is important as
teachers to let students be the center of their own learning because it
teaches them responsibility, discipline, and creativity. It also allows
students to work at their own pace. Students can take responsibility
through their learning in technology. Technology provides many ways
for students to get involved in their own learning. Some ways consist of
utilizing games, Google, YouTube, PowerPoint, and many others.
Responsibility is taught through student centered learning when
given the opportunity. It is helpful for students when teachers post
lessons and assignments online to a classroom website. Utilizing this
website and the sources that technology provides us with, encourages
student responsibility and discipline because the students will have the
sources they need to succeed in class. All the students would have to
do is utilize the resources provided to them. According to the Journal of
Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, Students become
independent learners and assume responsibility only when they have
various opportunities to exercise learning and responsibility skills

(Abedelmalak, 2013). In this website teachers should post PowerPoint

presentations that were introduced in class, a video recording of what
took place in class, an audio recording of the lesson, as well as
assignments and games for the students to review on their own time.
Having these resources at the fingers of these students will provide a
student technology based classroom since the students can work at
their pace.
Online games are highly encouraged for students to use when
integrating a student and technological centered classroom. The
reason being is because games are intriguing for the students. They
catch the students attention allowing them to be engaged in the
classroom. According to the Journal of Digital Content Technology and
its applications, Computer games are found to be one of the most
interesting and entertaining virtual environments and its an important
strategy to support new approaches as a teaching tool (Settachai,
2013). Due to the fact educational games have had a huge interest on
students they have become a welcoming teaching tool. A teachers
goal is to build students learning and interest in the class. Using online
games is the perfect opportunity to reach out to students because it
allows students to have fun with learning, watch their progression, and
work at a pace that is beneficial to them.
Student centered teaching also allows students to be creative in
the work that is assigned to them especially when utilizing technology

sources. Students have the ability to explore online and find what
intrigues them the most. According to Science Education Journal
Article, Extensive use of technology in the classrooms has the
potential to support students exploration and to enable student
centered learning (Huang, 2007). Technology allows students to
explore many different learning strategies such as online educational
gaming, PowerPoint, excel, word, Google docs, and many more. In
order for students to be able to express their creativity and
technological skills, teachers should give the class a project of the
students choice on the specified topic. This gives the students a
chance to step out of their comfort zone and explore new things as
well as show off their technological skills. This is also a super great way
for students to interact because the students can learn from each
other.
