Teaching a story through music

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

Time: 15 minutes

Overview:
Using musical instruments along with the book will allow students to
incorporate music and movement to comprehensive skills
within literature.
Objectives:
Students will recognize clothing material within the story.
Students will create movement to accompany the specific clothing items.
Students will identify repetitive patterns within story.
Activities/Procedure:
Introduce the story and sing along.
Hand out materials to students throughout the classroom and allow
students to explore their materials.
Rehearse each part separately, for students to understand their
role in the story.

Extension/Teaching Tips:
After the first run through of the story with the incorporation of the clothing materials have
students switch, so that every student has a chance to work with each item. Have students
help and teach each other how to play a certain item and when they should play it.
