College Research Project

You will be researching and presenting about one college or university that you are interested in.
These presentations should include the following:

Map of the College: You will need to include and label a map of the college. If it a large
university, choose a specific area for your map. (1pt)

Description of College: The following should be highlighted: whether it is a public or


private college, religious affiliation, co-ed vs. single sex, location, size, and facilities.
What is the college known for? What is the mascot? What is their Enrollment (how big is
it)? (5 pts)

Application Materials: You will need to include a blank or completed application for
the college. You should also include the requirements for admission, deadlines, early
decision/early action opportunities, etc. (5 pts)

Academics: Discuss what will happen if you are placed on academic probation, types of
majors offered, degrees, if they offer such opportunities like an honors program, double
major, study abroad, liberal arts, internships, etc. What subjects are this school known
for? Is there a particular program that is excellent? Which 2 programs from each school
would you like to be a part of? (5 pts)

Surrounding Area Activities: Discuss what is around the college such as shopping
malls, grocery stores, museums, theatres, restaurants, outdoor activities (2 pts)

Financial Aid and Scholarships and Tuition: Explain what types of aid and
scholarships are offered, a typical award, student requirements for scholarships and
financial aid, deadlines, etc. (4 pts)

Social Activities: Provide information about extracurricular activities, intramurals,


varsity sports, Greek life, volunteer service, etc. (1 pts)

On Campus Living: Discuss dorms that are available, lottery system, number of years
that on-campus housing is guaranteed, how to request a roommate, how to change a
roommate, items that you can bring to your dorm room, bank ATMs that are on campus,
alcohol and drug policy in the dorms (3 pts)

Meal Plans: Discuss the dining halls that are available, cost, where they are, what they
offer, late night menu, etc. (2 pts)

List of Questions: After concluding your research, you should come up with a list of 10
questions that you still have. These questions could be asked to various people that work
at the college during an admissions visit (admissions, career services, financial aid,
housing, academics, etc.) (2 pts)

These presentations are due on March 17th, 2016 in front of our class.
