THE LYDIAN DOMINANT

First of all, lets take a look at C Major Scale for example.

Remembering these scale for comparing with the C melodic minor Scale:

Comparing these two scale diagram we can see that the melodic minor scale came
from the Major scale with flatten third. Then every time you see a Major scale with
flatten third it is a Melodic minor scale, the original melodic minor scale. Easy!!!
Then lets take a look at modes. In Major scale (if youve already known) based on
the fourth degree of the scale it was F Lydian scale (Mode). Same as the Major
scale, the fourth degree of the scale in Melodic minor scale is F Lydian scale but with
the flatten seventh. That is the Lydian Dominant Scale, in this case is F Lydian
dominant scale. Lets take a look at the diagram.

Finally, weve know that the Lydian Dominant scale came from the Lydian mode in
Major scale with flatten seventh which is also the fourth degree of Melodic minor
scale.
