Processing unit )

Optional, maximum 2 modules

The UTRP performs the following functions:

Provides ports for eight E1s/T1s based on the IP

protocol.
Deframes and frames of the HDLC, and allocates and
controls 256 HDLC timeslots.

Page19

USCU (The Universal Satellite card

and Clock Unit )

USCUb0 Board

USCUb2 Board

The USCU performs the following functions:

The USCU provides interface for an external RGPS device

(such as a reused device of the operator), BITS device, and

TOD input

The USCUb0 does not provide the satellite card

The USCUb2 supports GPS and GLONASS with two built-in
satellite cards

Page20

Clock Synchronization Modes

GPS Clock

If an eNodeB is synchronized with the GPS clock, the eNodeB obtains

clock synchronization signals from the GPS through the USCU. In this
case, both frequency synchronization and time synchronization are
applicable

IEEE1588 V2 Clock

IEEE1588 defines the Precision Time Protocol (PTP), which targets

precise synchronization of distributed and independent clocks in
measurement and control systems, with the precision to
microseconds. IEEE1588 V2 supports frequency synchronization and
time synchronization

In LTE applications, high-accuracy frequency synchronization and

time synchronization can be achieved between clock servers and
eNodeBs by IEEE1588 V2 synchronization
Page21

Clock Synchronization Modes

(Cont.)

Clock over IP

Free Running

The clock enters the free running mode if no reference clock is available after
the oscillator is warmed up or if the clock has lost its reference input for a
period of time longer than the timer of the holdover mode

1 PPS

Clock over IP is a Huawei proprietary frequency synchronization technology,

which is based on an IP clock server/client architecture. It supports only
frequency synchronization

The eNodeB obtains 1 Pulse Per Second (PPS) signals to achieve time
synchronization

E1/T1 Line Clock

An eNodeB can extract frequency synchronization signals from E1/T1 links at

the physical layer. If S1 data is transmitted over an E1/T1 network, the
eNodeB can be synchronized with the E1/T1 line clock
