I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes):

A. Students will be able to describe learn to describe the sounds of different eggs
using their sense of hearing using descriptive adjectives.

II. Instructional Materials

A. 30 plastics Easter eggs (5 for each table)
B. Egg of tiny sand
C. Egg of beads
D. Egg of marbles
E. Egg of sand
F. Egg of Quarters
G. Egg of noodles
H. Tape
I. Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? By Bill Martin Jr.

III. Subject Matter/Content (prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big idea, outline of
additional content)
A. Prerequisite skills
1. Basic understanding of hearing
B. Key Vocabulary
1. Brain: the computer" part of your body which helps you think,
move, feel and remember
2. Deaf: unable to hear

3. Hearing Aid: a device that helps people hear

4. Senses: abilities of the body that helps you hear, see, smell, taste and
feel
5. Hypothesis: Educated guess
C. Big Idea: The Five Senses: Hearing
D. Content
1. How our ears works with our brain in order for us to hear sounds
IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1. Start lesson by having the children line up in the front of the room.
Explain to them how to play the game whisper down the lane.
2. Next, chose a sentence to whisper in the first childs ear, and have
them whisper what they heard in the next childs ear until it goes all
the way down the line.
3. The last student will say out loud the phrase and we will see if it is
correct or not. This will introduce the sense hearing.

B. Development
1. After introduction, ask the students if the sentence was correct. We
will discuss why or why not the message was relayed correctly or
not.
2. Discuss sounds we hear throughout the day.
3. Discuss what sounds are loud and what sounds are quiet.
4. Discuss why we hear and how our brain processes that information
to our brain, and how our brain acts like a computer using a
PowerPoint presentation.
5. Next, explain to the children that not everyone can hear.
6. Then, introduce the new vocab word: deaf.
7. Discuss how there is another alternative for people who are deaf to
hear, called a hearing aid.
8. Do a sensory activity for hearing, using the material listed.
9. Introduce the word hypothesis so that students can use it in the
activity.
10. Divide class up into 5 groups
11. Have the Easter eggs filled with each of the listed items, and have
the egg taped shut.
12. Each egg will have a number 1 through 6 on it at the desk, so the
teacher knows which item is sealed inside.
13. Each student will be able to shake the egg, and try to make a
hypothesis guess and record it on an inquiry sheet.
14. After the students record their hypothesis, reveal to them what really
was inside the Easter egg

15. On the worksheet, there will be space for the student to fill be able to
compare their answer with the correct answer.
16. Ask the students why they made that guess and what they based it
off of. Did they choose bigger items because of a certain sound it
made? Does the sound match the size of the item?
17. On the second worksheet the children can list the sounds they hear
using the adjective word box provided for them.

C. Closure
1. To close lesson, read the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear what Do You
Hear? To the students
2. Ask the class what they learned today and what their favorite part of
the activity was.

D. Accommodations/Differentiation
1. For a student who might be struggling with a delay, accommodate
him/her by sitting them at a table with students that excel, and can
help them throughout the steps of the activity.

E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan

1. Formative
1. Children will be assessed by observing students throughout the
lesson, with a checklist.
2. Also students will be assessed by the observations they made
on their worksheets

2. Summative: There is no summative for this lesson.

V. Reflective Response
A. Report of Student Performance in Terms of Stated Objectives (Reflection on
student performance written after lesson is taught, includes remediation for
students who fail to meet acceptable level of achievement)

Remediation Plan

B. Personal Reflection (Questions written before lesson is taught. Reflective

answers to question recorded after lesson is taught)
1. How clearly did was I able to teach the lesson to all of the children?
2. Was I able to grasp everyones attention with my anticipatory set?
3. Was my lesson affective and fun for the students
