Note
70-1784 Use this if you are going to use the Head unit to lay
you own wire to the back speakers. Does not include
the 20-pin connector
70-1787 Use this if you want to use the built in rear speaker
amplifier with stock wiring, or if you have the Bose
unit. This has both the dual 8-pin as well as the 20pin connectors

Refer to the following pin-out diagram for the Symphony unit. You will have to
solder the following wires from the Metra harness to the Kenwood head unit
harness and cover the joints with tape or better, heat shrink tubing.

The reserve signal must be connected so that he Head unit knows when the
vehicle is moving in reverse (for GPS and rear view camera). The wire on the
Kenwood power harness must be connected to the blue/white wire on the brown
connector using the provided crimp connector as shown on the following picture.
This can be found behind the kick panel which is located on the driver side, left to
the clutch pedal area. The panel is retained by two screws. The picture does not
show the white strip on the blue wire, but it's there. If you are unsure use a
voltmeter to find the wire that register +12V when the car is put into reverse (you
can switch the key to on but not start the engine to test).

Center console, removing and installing
Make auxiliary tool for disassembly of outlet.
Bend wire of 3 mm diameter as shown in illustration.
Dimension -x- = 6 mm
Remove speaker mounting for telephone => page 68-31.
Position seats all the way back.
Remove floor left and right cover => page 70-33.
Turn accelerator pedal stop 1/4 revolution (90 ) further.
Pry off cover -1- and loosen lock bolt (arrow) approx. 2
rotations.
Remove trim plate for trim -2- from front.

Removing
Insert T10057 radio removal tool into front panel of
radio, as shown.

Remove radio from instrument panel together with
T10057.
Disconnect electrical connectors and antenna wire.
Installing
Remove T10057 radio removal tool before installing
radio.
Connect electrical connectors and antenna wire.
Carefully slide radio into instrument panel until radio is
fully engage in frame.
Enter anti-theft radio code and check operation => radio
operating instructions.

Slope door trim and remove connector from switch for
interior lock driver side.
Installing
Installation is done in reverse sequence, noting the following:

Instrument cluster
Instrument cluster, removing and installing
Notes:
Before removing the instrument cluster, check DTC memory => page 01-10.
It is also necessary to note and write down the values for the Service Reminder Indicator and the odometer display using
the VAG 1551 scan tool => page 01-31.
Removing
Using steering column adjustment, pull steering wheel
out as far as it will go and move it to the lowest position.
Push both covers -arrows- in and remove cover from
instrument cluster.
Radio system
Loudspeakers, removing and installing
Loudspeakers in front doors, removing
Remove front door trim => Repair Manual, Body Interior, Repair Group 70.
Disconnect all electrical connectors.
Remove two Phillips-head screws -2- and remove
upper speaker -1- from door trim.
Remove four Phillips-head screws (arrows) and remove
lower speaker box -3- and speaker.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
Loudspeakers in rear doors, removing
Remove rear door trim => Repair Manual, Body Interior,
Repair Group 70.
Disconnect all electrical connectors.

Slope down door trim and pry out locking clip -1- at
Bowden cable -2- of door opener.
Unhook nipple of Bowden cable with retaining clip -3- at
door opener.
Note:
Make sure that the retaining clip of Bowden cable does not get
lost.
Disconnect all connectors for wiring harness door trim.
Remove wiring harness out of door trim.
Installing
Installation is done in reverse sequence, noting the following:
With lid
To remove center console,
remove trim -10- and trim
for gearshift mechanism -6-

Note:
Cover frame -1- can not be removed without being damaged. If
possible, remove boot together with trim for shift mechanism =>
item -6-, page 68-36.
