The reserve signal must be connected so that he Head unit knows when the
vehicle is moving in reverse (for GPS and rear view camera). The wire on the
Kenwood power harness must be connected to the blue/white wire on the brown
connector using the provided crimp connector as shown on the following picture.
This can be found behind the kick panel which is located on the driver side, left to
the clutch pedal area. The panel is retained by two screws. The picture does not
show the white strip on the blue wire, but it's there. If you are unsure use a
voltmeter to find the wire that register +12V when the car is put into reverse (you
can switch the key to on but not start the engine to test).

Switches in center console, removing and installing
Removing:
Insert fabricated tools -C- ( => page 96-4) in opening D- and pull vent evenly from instrument panel insert.
Note:
Do not hook fabricated tools -C- in vent vanes as the vent can
break.

With your hand reach through the opening and from


behind and press out applicable switch.
Pull out switch further and disconnect electrical
connector.
Installing:
Install electrical connector.
Insert switch into opening and press in until catches
engage.
Install air vents in instrument panel and engage catches.
Tool for removal of air vent

Fabricate tool from wire approximately 3mm dia.


(0.120 in.) as shown.
Dimension x = 6 mm (0.24 in.)

Make auxiliary tool for disassembly of outlet.
Bend wire of 3 mm diameter as shown in illustration.
Dimension -x- = 6 mm
Remove speaker mounting for telephone => page 68-31.
Position seats all the way back.
Remove floor left and right cover => page 70-33.
Turn accelerator pedal stop 1/4 revolution (90 ) further.

Remove screws -1- and -2-.


Remove trim left for center console -3- (to remove, slide
trim forward and unhook from back).

Remove screws -2- and -3-.


The front screws -2- can be reached by turning back floor
covering.
Remove right-side trim for center console -1-.
To remove, slide trim forward and unhook from back.

Pull up parking brake lever as far as possible.


Pry out lock pin -2- in direction of (arrow -A-).
Remove parking brake lever handle -1- in direction of
(arrow -B-).

Pry off cover -1- and loosen lock bolt (arrow) approx. 2
rotations.
Remove trim plate for trim -2- from front.

Remove parking brake trim.


Note the retaining tab at the rear/narrow end of the trim.
Vehicles with manual transmission:
Remove shift knob and place in 4th gear.
Vehicles with center armrest:
Remove center armrest => page 68-29.
All vehicles:

Unclip trim -2-.


Remove screws -3-.
Remove rear seat outlet -1-.

Place auxiliary tool -C- in holes of instrument cluster


outlets -D-.
Remove instrument cluster outlet, center part out evenly.
Note:
Do not hook auxiliary tool -C- into fins of instrument cluster
outlet (the fins could break off).

Remove 5 bolts (arrows).


Remove instrument cluster, center part -1- and
disconnect connectors.

Remove bolts -4- left and right.


Press ashtray -1- toward front.
Remove screws -3-.

Using sharp knife, separate, where necessary, adhesive


between center console -2- and instrument panel.
Raise rear center console and guide to front over parking
brake lever.

Front door trim, removing and installing
Removing
Pry trim plate -3- at door trim from retaining clips
carefully.
Press pin -1- of expanding clip -2- approx. 4 mm and
remove expanding clips.
Note:

Do not press pins completely to remove door trim.


Depending on design status, Phillips-head screws can be
used instead of expanding clips.

Pry off lower part of handle well using dull screwdriver


(arrow).
Remove lower part of handle well from door trim.

Remove screws -3- for handle well upper part -2-.


Remove handle well-upper part from the top out of door
trim -1-.
Note:
For one part handle well upper part, the front part of the handle
well upper part (with switches) must be unclipped from the door
trim and connectors disconnected.

Remove Phillips-head screws (arrows).

Remove Phillips-head screws -2-.


Loosen adhesive from rear filler -1- at window frame.

For vehicles with memory function and/or auxiliary


heater unscrew Phillips-head screw -1- of switch
mounting -2- at door trim.

Unclip door trim -1- from support for door interior


components.

Slope door trim and remove connector from switch for
interior lock driver side.

Pry lock clip -1- at Bowden cable -2- of door opener.


Unhook nipple of Bowden cable with retaining clip -3- at
door opener.
Note:
Make sure that the retaining clip of Bowden cable does not get
lost.

Loosen clip -1- of air duct -2- at door trim.


Disconnect all connectors for wiring harness door trim.
Remove retaining clips for wiring harness.

Instrument cluster, removing and installing
Notes:

Do not disassemble the instrument cluster.


It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel. The steering wheel is shown removed in the following illustrations for
clarity only.

Before removing the instrument cluster, check DTC memory => page 01-10.
It is also necessary to note and write down the values for the Service Reminder Indicator and the odometer display using
the VAG 1551 scan tool => page 01-31.
Removing
Using steering column adjustment, pull steering wheel
out as far as it will go and move it to the lowest position.
Push both covers -arrows- in and remove cover from
instrument cluster.

Remove both screws.


Pull instrument cluster out toward front.
Cut cable ties on back of instrument cluster.
Release retaining tabs on connectors and disconnect.
Installing
Re-connect electrical connectors and secure wiring at
the back side of instrument cluster with cable ties.
Install in reverse order of removal.
Check instrument cluster function after installation.
If the instrument cluster is working properly:
Code the instrument cluster and perform adaptation of
odometer display and service reminder indicator.
Note:
After replacing the instrument cluster, be sure to follow notes =>
page 01-55.
Removing and installing instrument cluster light bulbs

At the back of the instrument cluster, remove control
lights 5 to 12 using a small screwdriver and turning to the
left.
Install new bulb and secure again using screwdriver.

Disconnect all electrical connectors.
Remove two Phillips-head screws -2- and remove
upper speaker -1- from door trim.
Remove four Phillips-head screws (arrows) and remove
lower speaker box -3- and speaker.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.

Disconnect all electrical connectors.

Remove three Phillips-head screws (arrows) and


remove speaker -1-.
Installing

Remove four Phillips-head screws -2- from each of two


speaker covers -1- located in luggage compartment on
underside of rear parcel shelf.
From below, remove from each speaker two Phillipshead screws -3-.
Remove speakers upward out of rear parcel shelf and
disconnect electrical connectors.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.

Rear door trim, removing and installing
Removing
Pry trim plate -3- at door trim carefully from retaining
clips.
Press pin -1- of expanding clip -2- approx. 4 mm and
remove expanding clip.
Note:

Do not press pins completely to remove door trim.


Depending on design status Phillips-head screws can be
used instead of expanding clips.

Pry off lower part of handle well using dull screwdriver.


Remove lower part of handle well from door trim.

Remove screws -3- for handle well upper part -2-.


Remove handle well upper part from top out of door trim

Note:
For one part handle well upper part , the front part of the handle
well upper part (with switches) must be unclipped from the door
trim and connectors disconnected.

Loosen adhesive from rear filler-1- at window frame.

For vehicles with power adjusted individual seats


unscrew Phillips-head screw of shift mounting at door
trim.

Slope down door trim and pry out locking clip -1- at
Bowden cable -2- of door opener.

Note:

Disconnect all connectors for wiring harness door trim.
Remove wiring harness out of door trim.
