BOILER ADJUSTMENTS DIVISION / STAGEII / TSII.

PASSIVATION PROCEDURE FOR UNIT-VI.

1. Bunkers filling not to be carried out from II shift first filling onwards on 02.10.2000.
2. All the bunkers to be emptied for liner plate replacement work.
3. If necessary, oil support may be taken while emptying the bunkers.
4. Unit load has to be reduced to minimum 40 MW, using HP/ LP bypass.
5. De synchronize the unit after informing switchyard.
6. Conduct turbine over speed test. Stop the firing in boiler.
7. Start force cooling of the boiler. Keep one series fans; one BFP and one CW pump. Inform generator board
to switch off all ESP fields.
8. PRDS system to be isolated. All injection valves of SH / RH system to be kept closed.
9. Chemical staff shall be informed for dozing and analysis after tripping the turbine.
10. Light up the boiler at drum pressure 40 Ksc. Start dozing hydrazine in drum & feed pump suction at drum
pressure 30 Ksc. Adjust the firing with two oil burners to about 4 to 5 T/hr (10 Ksc oil pressure at burner
header) and maintain 30 Ksc drum pressure by tuning HP / LP bypass.
11. Passivation commences once 200 PPM of N2H4 concentration reaches in drum. This will continue for 24
Hrs. During passivation, N2H4 concentration in condensate may be carefully monitored.
12. Hydrazine dozing will be stopped after 24 Hrs of passivation. Box up the boiler.
13. Allow the boiler to cool naturally.
14. During passivation oil burners shall be changed over once in 4 Hrs. Firing should be controlled to maintain
the steam flow at the rate of 50 to 70 T/ Hr.
15. RAPH soot blowers to be operated twice in a shift.
16. Hourly readings, chemical analysis and other parameters to be recorded during passivation.
17. Boiler has to be hot drained once the contour pressure dropped to 3 Ksc in drum or drum metal
temperature reduced to 140 C.
18. Service water / Firewater has to be added to the outlet of IBD tank to reduce N2H4 concentration to the
desired level. P H value has to be monitored.
19. After draining the contour fully, one series of fans may be started for cooling the furnace for further
works.
