Each of the teachers is assigned to a subject


specific data team. In the data team, we
work on strategies to improve student
success.
Teaching Artifact Results
One of the strategies we agreed on was to use short videos
to help students retain information better. Each of the
teachers on the team implements the ideas. We then share
out the results.

Connection to Artifact

It is helpful to work with and collaborate with other


teachers. It is especially important as a new teacher to
work with more seasoned teachers. They can really help
shorten the learning curve.

I have seen the benefits of using collaboration. It helps me


bounce ideas off of others. It also helps work with other
science teachers who are more experienced than I am.

What to Improve?

As I gain more experience in teaching, I will have more


time to work with the other departments and community
members to get more involvement.
The goal of the data teams are to work on formative
assessments to improve student learning outcomes. We
look at what the students know and what they need to
know. The data teams are a part of the requirements for
Hawaii DOE schools.

This article stated there are better student outcomes when
teachers collaborate. Several reasons for this include the

teachers building better relationships with each other and


shared responsibilities. Without collaboration, teaching can
be a very isolating experience.
