Background & Aims: Madeira International Disaster Training Center created in Madeira
Island in February 2016, is a medical training center born from Madeira Clinical Simultation
Center project, in order to response to mass casualty incidents and trauma education needs
and requests at a regional and national level .
Since February 2010, after Madeira Island flood & mass casualty incident, local government and
madeira island health secretary stongly supported the develpment and education of all envolved
agents from prehospital personel, fire brigate, emergency technicians, doctors, nurses, to
hospital practicioners from administration to social workers, psychologist, legal medicine
technicians, hospital doctors and nurses.

Materials & Methods: A mass casualty incident education model was adopted, MACSIM
(mass casualty simulation system), developt in Karolinska Institute by Prof Sten Lenqvist and
introduced in Madeira/Portugal in 2010 with the MRMI, the Medical Response to Major Incidents
course,

Results & Conclusions: Over the last 4 years of trauma & mass casualty education, more
than 500 participants where educated in disaster abroad 7 provider courses, 2 international
instructor courses, from Madeira Island to Lisbon, Coimbra and Azores Islands.
