As we all know, society depends on technology for everything as it is getting
broader and more used. Many people use it to communicate, entertain, and even
learn. About fifty percent of Americans have an online class or course. Can online
learning be effective? Online learning is not effective because there are so many
qualities a person has to have. Although the authors of these sources are not
credible, I am using these sources because I strongly agree with most of their
statements about online learning. They all state that taking an online course is not
beneficial.
Ye, He. "Universal Design For Learning In An Online Teacher Education Course:
Enhancing Learners' Confidence To Teach Online." Journal Of Online Learning &
Teaching 10.2 (2014): 283-298. Education Research Complete. Web. 23 Aug. 2014.
Universal Design for learning (an online class research) has shown that by
2020 fifty percent of all high schools in the United States of America will be offered
an online class. Another study shows that less than one third of teachers are
interested on online learning. This is because many teachers teach the way they
was taught (face to face). This is not an impossible task , there are some online
techniques that teachers will have to use in order for the student to learn. One
important technique is that the teacher has to have confidence in his or herself. The
University Design for Learning did a survey that shows twenty-four teacher
candidates experiencing the benefits to help the students while they explore the
learning from the different techniques.
This article was very useful. He Ye the author of this article was not very
credible because he didnt give background information about himself but, a lot of
points he said made a lot of since and he had the research to follow. By doing these
different researches we see that his statements are reliable because it is based on
the society. The goal of this source was to show what it takes for an online class to
work.
This source was really beneficial to me. Although it did not change the way I
think because I agree with him, I also learned new things. For an example, I did not
know that in order for the student to learn on an online class, the teacher has to use
effective techniques. This can shape my argument because I can say that online
teaching is not effective because less than one third of teachers are interested in
teaching online. This will show that they have little confidence when they need to
have a lot.

Learning On Learning Satisfaction Of A Diverse Online Student Body: A Structural
Equation Modeling Approach." Journal Of Educational Computing Research 48.1
(2013): 97-122. ERIC. Web. 23 Aug. 2014.
The term online learning can be defined as represented and designed space
for educational interactions in which students are not only active but also actors
who co-construct the virtual space . Online learning gives the student the ability to
think outside the box more but, in order for the students to learn effectively the
course they are taking will need to be on the same level as they are. Although
this all sounds good, physical participation learning helps produce the thought
process faster. (You do more physical participation in a non-online class) Five key
constructs for student centered learning in an online course is learner relevance,
active learning, authentic learning, learner autonomy, and computer technology
competence.
This article was basically saying the same thing in the first article. (Universal
Design for Learning in an Online Teacher Education Course: Enhancing Learners'
Confidence to Teach Online.) So I guess it was helpful in a way. Fengfeng Ke and
Kwak Dean the authors of this article did not tell much about their self and what
they have accomplished so I cannot say that they are credible but since both of
these articles say about the same thing, I will say it is reliable. The goal of this
source was to show the audience what it takes to be an online teacher and an
online learner.
This article can help shape my argument by describing the five constructs of
learning. Also this did not change the way I think about online learning.

Friedman, Linda Weiser, and Hershey H. Friedman. "Using Social Media

Technologies To Enhance Online Learning." Journal Of Educators Online 10.1 (2013):
ERIC. Web. 23 Aug. 2014.
About thirty percent of college students are taking at least one online class.
Just like a telephone became a computer and a camera, learning has advanced too.
Disciplines of today are changing because of information access, collaborative
technology, and convergence, among other factors. Online learning is effective, it
just change rapidly.
This article was not really useful because I did not agree with it. Linda Weiser
and Hershey H. Friedman are the author of this article and I do not think it was
credible because they gave more opinions than they did facts. The goal of the
authors writing this paper was to examine the relevant published literature, looking

at online learning activities through the prism of the defining characteristics of

todays new communication technologies.
This can help shape my argument by including the cell phone example and
also tell the readers how fast technology change. This article does not change the
way I think about my argument.

CIGDEM, Harun, and Osman Gazi YILDIRIM. "EFFECTS OF STUDENTS'
CHARACTERISTICS ON ONLINE LEARNING READINESS: A Vocational College
Example." Turkish Online Journal Of Distance Education (TOJDE) 15.3 (2014): 80-93.
Education Research Complete. Web. 23 Aug. 2014.
The internet technology develop rapidly. This is why we have online courses
today. Many online students and faculty experience difficulty with online courses.
Most student do not like online learning because of the advance capability and tools
on the computer. In order to learn, the student will need internet self-efficacy,
learner control, motivation for learning, and online communication self-efficacy selfdirect learning. Because of all of these skills that the student has to have, different
studies show that most students are not ready.
This article was very useful, we both agreed on the same statements. Harun
Cigdem, the author of this article made a lot of points but I would not say that she is
credible because she does not give information about herself. The goal for this
journal was to show other readers that in order to be successful in an online class
then, you are going to have to have some skills.
This article help me shape my argument by giving me another reason why
taking an online class is not for everyone. This article has not changed my mind
about anything because, we are basically agreeing with each other.

Networks: Learning Experiences During A Massive Open Online Course."
International Review Of Research In Open And Distance Learning 12.3 (2011): 1938. ERIC. Web. 24 Aug. 2014.
In order to be an online learner, you have to be autonomous. This mean that
you have to be able to learn independently. You will also have to be able to manage
time, set your own goals, find resources, and try out new tools to make them
assignment work. Yet research shows that not all students have these qualities.
Research has also shown that the higher level of presence, the higher level of
improvement in the activity.
This article was useful because it gave me more reasons to defend my
argument. For an example, I can discuss the different qualities the student must
have in order to succeed in an online class. Rita Kop the author of this journal did

not build up no credibility but, the statements she make I agree with them. The goal
of this journal was to explain to the readers why do students struggle with online
classes.
This journal helps shape my argument because I can talk about all the
consequence to taking and online course. (Managing time etc) This article did not
change the way I think because I agree with it.
