Dear Human Resource Manager,
I am a current graduate of Sheridan Colleges Early Childhood Leadership Program and
am excited to finally have my degree under my academic belt. I have also just completed the ECAdvanced Studies in Special Needs (ECAS) Post-Grad Program at Humber College as the first
step to pursuing my dream of becoming a resource consultant. Ever since I could imagine, my
dream has always been to work with young children-children who have special needs in
particular. This desire to be as involved as I can with families and children who have special
needs has derived from the very root of my own childhood. Growing up, I had an older brother
and younger sister. Being that my sister was diagnosed being Epileptic and having a Global
Developmental Delay, it has forced me to grow up much quicker and take on a greater amount of
responsibility at a very young age. I would care for her after school, assist her in the washroom,
administer medication, assist with feeding and teach her life skills. I would also teach her
phonics, colours, numbers, shapes, the alphabet, and would read to her. I would provide her with
engaging activities and outlets in which she could express her creativity.
By caring for my sister, I feel as though I havent only been helping her, but she has been
helping me. She has taught me so much more about life that I could have ever learned on my
own. She has shown me how incredible children with special needs are, and has helped me
realize that I want to dedicate my life working with children who have special needs. I had taken
the initiative in seeking opportunities which would allow me to learn about different children and
what they need in order to develop into strong independent capable individuals. I volunteered at
Parkholme Secondary School (a school specially designed catered to working on improving each
individual childs developmental needs), completed my internship at ErinoakKids (EOK) in their
resource department, completed placements at St Edmund Campion in their P.I.P. Program, and
Brampton Caledon Community Living (BCCL) shadowing a couple of resource consultants. But
most of all, was involved in the growth and development of my dear sister. I hope this gives a
better sense of who I am as a person and as a professional.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application and I hope to hear from you soon.
Please find enclose my application as the first step to employment. Should you have any
